We started with a flexicoil drill, today we use
3310 bourgualt para link drills! The seed master
has left the building.
But as I do crop plans it's got me thinking, 30
years our land wasn't tilled. Yes heavy harrowed
or Kelly harrowed but as far as deep tillage or
disced, nothing.
So as Dave says yes things have changed on
most farms. Before 1984 we were air seeding and
packing with flexicoil heavy packer bar so sort of
direct seeding.
So how has it helped the land. We'll organic
matter is going up. Less erosion, from wind, water
etc. In a winter like this if half the land was black
with all this wind their would be some land
moving!
Moisture retention and the mat of straw helps with
evaporation.
Now in the wet years yes tillage would of helped a
lot.
Down side more chemical to kill hard to kill
weeds.
So how long have others been in the direct
seeding game and how is it helping them out.
