The canola council should be roasted for suggesting
shorter canola rotations are okay.Suggesting they are
following the lead of producers would beg the
question of then why would we need the canola
council. Farmer's in general have a history of chasing
short term revenue at the expense of longer term
sustainability. Their current growth targets would
imply they are also willing to risk long term
sustainability to meet their goals at any cost. What
farmer's are left with are increased expense to control
weeds, insects and diseases. These also lead to
declining yields not what the council is trying to attain.
The optics of this announcement are terrible. I would
suggest that the council has taken a major creditability
hit and producers should take them to task.
