I have been pushing this issue since fall. I have been told I am pissed because I didn't presell my grain or I was vacationing or I was Lazy etc. etc.
Well We sold more grain off the Combine than probably 50% or you grow in a whole year that are arguing with me. Peas were all done at 8.50 down to a low of 8.00 so their is your example. Canola done and HRS done.
So to all who think its the farmers fault or farmers are lazy or farmers are bitchy I ask please explain how grain movement this year is different than any other.
See in our area were finally back after 5 years of floods with a Normal to slightly above normal crop. Go back and look at your long term average. That's since say the 80s. Some of you only grew a crop the last 5 and I say Congratulations but when our area gets back to a normal like it sure is looking this year maybe some of you will also be back to normal and realize that Sask. Maybe wasn't that far off the mark.
But the whole thing I'm pissed about is how some cant see how piss poor our rail service is and how the Line companies have figured out late that this is a licence for them to print money and get the farmers where they want them with long term contracts (to protect the line companies from shortages etc.) No more price spikes and have to get grain out of farmers hands. No use old smoke and Mirror blame the other guy then slip in and it will be to late before any one actually figures it out and by that time your in control.
And by all the info I'm getting that's exactly what's happening.
In Canada the Farmers have Grain Storage and Some have grain storage that is out of this world. We are not like the USA system where the farmers deliver off combine and only build min storage on their farm.
But back to the railway problem. Their are cars for Grain sitting all over the fricking place. Trains were sent to USA no kidding.
All winter out of the local Terminal that is one of Saskatchewan better ones. 150 cars loaded beside terminal. Train shows up takes 50 then leaves then maybe takes 50 a few days out with promise of 100 and drops off 50 so terminal loads and again you have cars sitting.
Contracts since fall still not filled yet these are useless contracts for the farmer because they mean jack shit. So now the companies want us to do long term contracts out a year or more to help us farmers with movement because the new norm is the crop we just grew. WTF again mother nature got us here with the perfect storm we were just dry enough to use up some of the sub moisture and some got just enough to make a huge crop with no scorching temps. Dah Not Science mother nature.
Back again to the cars Oats out of Yorkton booked cars by company farmers sold early for good money contracts in place yet only min movement since last fall. Hm Parent company in USA days away from out of oats offering $4.95 Canadian for oats to bring them oats to Iowa. Yet I must be wrong its not the railway companies.
Finally got a picture today from Brazil of how the trucks are getting stuck and accidents etc. trying to get grain to port and cant help thinking in Canada we have the same shit show going on. Maybe were really a third world country trying to play with the big boys.
discussed with What happening to Farmers. So again Explain please why I'm wrong about the rail system and what the Grain companies are setting us up for in the future.
