Since Dave is telling Ritz he is doing a great job. Its just farmers who didn't know how to market their crops. Full steam ahead we have no problem. agriculture is job one!
Ok So we know your a processor of lentils or what ever on the West Boarder with Alberta.
Ok lets use Dave logic. All farmers that you have contracted new crop at what ever you have booked cars with Railway for fall ahead of time because that's just the way you do things one step ahead of the rest.
Now harvest comes and you see your area is on way for one hell of a crop 2013 all over.
But so you start bringing in their product as fast as you can to get it out and beat the rush.
Oh but this year their are still contracts in East Sask for Oats at 4.25 to USA and Barley at 5.25 that haven't been picked up. Railway goes to priority system where they have to clear the backlog. You find out your next car will arrive in spring of 2015 but most likey 2015 summer.
How do you deal with your farmers that want to be paid for the crop pay them to store or pay them.
How deep are your pockets to wait a year out to get paid. Lost sales by you mount up.
How long does daves company survive.
Throw in a drought for 2016 for your area. Since we had 5 of wet its about time for you guys to get back to normal.
How long does dave continue.
How long does Dave tell Ritz he is doing a wonderful job.
Simply what I'm saying look all around the rail service is not improving its getting worse. Small processors are now finding their not getting service. Delays are costing us all money. If my wheat form last fall doesn't get delivered till fall 2015 do you honestly think they will worry about contracts taken for fall delivery. Because a riot will happen.
Your not Pioneer or Glencore or who ever to handle that.
We have a serious problem with rail service in Canada and all the discussions this winter did shit all. Funny saw train after train of Oil moving on the last weekend but no Grain. Hm I guess those Oil cars must be really special because they can move at -47.
