Temperatures at 6:00 a.m. CT were still in the upper 20s F. as far south as the Texas Panhandle and overnight lows there were likely in the low 20s. Russell, Kansas recorded a low of 19 degrees F. The cold could do damage to HRW wheat in Texas and Oklahoma and to a lesser extent in Kansas. In Texas, 16% of the crop is now in the vulnerable heading stage, while 80% of the Oklahoma crop was jointing as of Sunday along with 31% of the Kansas crop. The SRW wheat crop in Arkansas is also at risk. World Weather, Inc. believes permanent damage to production has only occurred in a few areas with western Texas possibly most impacted.
