Well the past weekend was a wet one. Started with rain and turned to wet snow then snow on Tuesday morning again.
Needless to say no spring work has taken place on anybody's farm in our area. Guys are trying to still empty grain bags but the fields are soft and track units with carts are having a rough time. Yards are wet and now main roads have softened.
People are still cleaning grain and starting to get equipment ready for the push when it finally happens.
It now looks like we are back to similar situation like last year. Probably the start date for seeding will be May 9 or 12th. Yes that's starting to get late but the back roads are still impassible on some and snow along tree lines is still their.
Fertilizer if you don't have on farm is basically ridiculously priced. Basically their saying we cant get it so here is what its worth.
It looks like the big crop will be flax and peas and lentils for increase and Canola and wheat for decrease in acres.
Land is still trading for purchase extremely high south to the valley and reasonable North. One larger guy is quitting or down sizing and the scramble is on. Some liquidated to local (Yea good deal) rest rented out or subleased out (rented land rerented.
Happy Farming from East central side of province. What are others doing.
