The Grocery Manufacturers Association has confirmed it will file suit against the State of Vermont to overturn its genetically modified organism labeling law, which Governor Peter Shumlin signed into law Thursday. Executive vice president of government affairs with the Grocery Manufacturers Association Louis Finkel tells RRFN when government mandates a label on a food product, consumers believe that the label is intended to give them very important information related to health, safety and nutritional content. “The Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization have said there is no material difference between a genetically engineered ingredient and its conventional counter-part.
