BNSF Launches Plan to Improve Rail Capacity

The BNSF Railway has launched a plan to invest $1 billion to improve and expand rail capacity in its Northern Corridor, which includes Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. The plan includes a double track line from Minot to Glasgow, Montana, which will ease the flow of traffic headed to the Pacific Northwest. Capacity will also be increased for routes between Fargo and Grand Forks; Fargo and Minot; Bismarck and Glendive, Montana; and Minot to Grand Forks. The BNSF is the largest transporter of grain in the US. North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says this investment will have “a significant impact,” in dealing with shipping delays.
