The USDA is saying they have a lower wheat crop but not that bad. Ha Phoned family and talked to a few people who farm from Texas to ND. They all have one thing in common. The Wheat harvest is piss poor. Here is also a thread from AgTalk!
HRW Harvest is steadily moving north.. not to us yet but very close before tonight's storms.
Yeah, we have about 100 acres of wheat cut so far. Problem is, we had to run the combines over 300 acres to get it.
Seriously, yields have been in the low teens. I think we have some better and I know we have some worse to come.
It's very spotty...trying to grow a crop with near zero in-season precip tells us a lot about our soil (and our soul).
And I don't understand what the wheat market could possibly be thinking...this is NOT a localized aberration.
I believe this year their cant BS that the wheat crop has nine lives. This Cat is Dead!
But wait they will import cheap Canadian HRS and bring up their balance sheets.
Yield reports are NOT very good.. 8..10..15.. to maybe 20..25 bu.. they seem to be climbing a little as it comes north but golly.. that's some really poor wheat.
Next county over had a report of 30 bu.. my hope is that we got enough rains late to fill to hit that but.. golly there's a lot of dead spots out there showing up now.. ??
From the road the wheat looks decent looking across it but golly walk out in it and it's "over there" wheat in that.. "doesn't look good here but does over there.." Walk over to that spot.. and ditto.. just too darn thin. We're about to get pounded tonight so well see what's left after this passes.. stands seem too thin for hail to hurt them much but rain will lower the TW..
I hope to find some 30 to 40 bu yields.. but reports from not too far away.. are not sounding promising.. heard tonight of 8 bu wheat.. EIGHT bushels..!!! on a quarter section.. one truck load. that sucks.
If this continues.. harvest projections are going to have to be lowered... again.
Aw.. SURELY it's better than that...??
