    hot and dry

Sums up the next two weeks. I think I will want something that my crop can get to easily at the end of two weeks if not before. Just my opinion.
Now tack on another 3 weks of nothing and rain makes grain is again true.

I farmed here all my life. I know we dont have subsoil to pull off a bumper like last year. Someone counting spikes etc may differ. So rain after the two weeks of dry will make grain.

Watered my lawn for the first time in 5 years today. The crops still look good but it sure would be nice to see some rain in the next 10 days.

Canola around saskatoon is shutting down flowering. All aborted pods. Was spraying fungicide on 640 like that... These are fields along highway 16 that looked great from road.

Drilled two post holes down to 8ft last night they were to within 2 ft full of water yet.

Ya hopper the rookies can count all the spikelets they want LOL... Same here a rain in the next week would be dynamite.. Without it and it will be only a little better than average

Why seed to mud its a dud is correct. When you seed a crop into mud the root system sits on the top inch and tries to dry the ground. When heat hits in June the crop can recover at night. But when heat hits in July the roots cant grow down quick enough.
Yes a little shower in about a weeks time would be nice, The flooded out dead areas have no crop anyways. Flowering of Canola in dry hot windy conditions doesn't make a bumper and Spikelet's are nice but have to fill for the math to work. Similar if barley stays in the boot and doesn't come out its not going to be a good barley crop.

Temp was 10c at midnight, 12c at 6am.

That is why soy does poorly here... It shuts down below 15c.

At 20c nights... It grows like wildfire.

                Your soy should love this.
                As should anyone's corn.
                Cheers

This is a carbon copy of last year on my farm. 8" of spring rain, tap turned off the end of June. The end result last year was low. forties canola and high fifties wheat. This year could serve as a reminder to many why it's a good idea to fertilize for 7" of rain not ten. Too bad I let the June rain head fake me into putting on an extra 20# of N. Oh well it's also thunder storm season, who feels lucky?

Precip this time of year seems to come in thunder showers and we all know that can be anywhere from a trace to too much. The June monsoon season is over. Peas on most of our acres are still shit and won't improve either. Everything else isn't too bad. We really needed the warmth and sunshine we're getting now. The soybeans around here seem to be really short and wonder if they will amount to much. But if they can escape an early fall frost there should be something, good luck guys. Driving around you see everything from WOW to WTF, but a fair bit of WTF.
