Grass farmer last year we were on our way to a great canola crop. This year fields are done flowering 8 days after they start and you can still see the seed rows.


sF3 is right... this year there is major flooding. And it won't come back.

We have had low 20's Canola when you had rain... Shucks 40mi away they had farm averages over 50.

This is western Canada. Variable crops are normal overall.

You must know this by now.

We had 20 a few years ago and 40 miles away had 50.
Try 250 miles away. This is a huge area that has been hit not like a hail storm that takes a few quarters.

The only thing I'm disputing is SF3s claim that he has had 200-300% of normal rainfall for the last 8 years. That is patently ridiculous as is evidenced from his post this time last year where he was claiming to have had only 2.5 inches all summer.
If he quit crying wolf most of the time it might elicit more sympathy for his plight when things do turn bad.

Bucket not worse at all, I want it to get better for you guys. That has nothing to do with the false claims of 200%, 300% of annual rainfall for 8 years in a row.

A little recognition that flooding is happening and people's livelihoods are being destroyed would be nice.


Grassfarmer, the annual average precipitation for Dauphin Manitoba is 280 mm.

They are at over 470 this year and the same story since pretty much 2009.

There's thousands of acres under a permanent lake that will never come back... I'd be more than happy to take you for a drive.

The same thing can be said for a vast area in sw Manitoba and Se Sask.

Imagine loosing 30% of your land base permanently to water.

That's what we went through once already.

We have had years like you... had rice tires on Combine and had to run every half hopper to the road to dump.

Western Canada has wild weather. Too wet. Too dry. Northern US is no different.

It happens almost every year. SW Ab got it last year... worse than you. And they are just as wet as you again this year.

C'mon Klause, Google Dauphin historic weather data and you'll find average annual precipitation quoted between 490-510mm. If you only got 280mm on average (11.2 inches) i'd look more like a desert.

I understand you are in a wetter cycle and land is lost and flooded but that's not the same as getting 200-300% annual precipitation over several years.

How much water do you think it takes to raise the three large lakes in Manitoba 6 meters?

Let's start by remembering no other prairie province has a lake that comes close to the size of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Dauphin lakes.

JULY 5, 2011 a buddy of mine had me help him go out to his high clearance sprayer with a boat and bring it back... The water was up to the frame of a 4710 deere and since then it has risen to were old grain bins are submerged other than the lid.


I'm ssorry but if you live west of Saskatoon, you have never and will never experience this because of the lay of the land... how long does alberta stay flooded? A week?

Try a month. Or three. Or permanently when you are at the low end of the prairie drainage system.
