The Alberta hate is strong with some on this site. Not sure why.
Here in the south the last number of years have been good, but what about before that? Going back to "normal" means our crops burn up and yield little.

I suppose it's alright for that to happen, as long as you don't get flooded. Seems like there is a sense of entitlement for good weather, because that's the way it used to be.

Perhaps we all need to take pleasure in small victories. No fun stuff today (raining) but got finally completed a plumbing project that has been a long time in the making (disagreement in the house as to how long it has been). No leaks so far and only 2 trips to Rona.

Attitude also comes from watching family. Getting old ain't easy. Puts some perspective on life and whats important. I am lucky enough to be able to deal with stuff as it happens. Plan for the best. Prepare for the worst.

I had a goofy neighbour who was neither prosperous nor a good farmer by any means. But he once said something that stuck with me over the years - "plan for the bad years, the good ones will take care of themselves". I think there is a modicum of truth to that.

Good points all but this shit has been happening for 8 years!
Funny thing is how some just don't get how much damage water can do! It's not funny!

SF3 - some of us from Sunny South Alberta do get it. From the extreme event some of you in the East experienced I'm willing to bet that it's not just a loss for this year's crop but that there has also been significant damage to your soil and fields, not to mention infrastructure. I never had anything that extreme but I once got a dump of 3 and 1/2 inches in less than half an hour. Lost a section of RSW ( flag leaf) to root rot and it pancaked so hard the air seeder couldn't break the crust when I tried to reseed. It cut new gullies in undisturbed native grassland around the borders. Took about three crop cycles to get it back to normal. Irrigation farmers will put on 20 or more inches a season, but not in one weekend!

So if I make it past Aug 9th again we should be as good - on pace with last year. except "heat" damaged peas that now have root rot.

Furrow from your area right to bc is excellent north to meadow lake and south to kindersley then the problems start out of this area. Good on you . Keep hoping 2015 is beginning of our rebuild back to where we use to be.

Like I said , between my brother and I we covered most of eastern and south east sask at end of June - I was sick to my stomach to see all that water and dead crop

                    SF3,

In case you missed it... the peace river area has as much area as all of Manitoba.

And a big chunk of it is way too dry.

Forest Fires burning out of control all over in north and BC.

                      SF3,

Ontario Quebec and the Maritimes have been much wetter than you.
