Tom keep believing that Industry actually cares for the farmer.
Canola went from 1.00 a lb to 14.00 this year. Yes suppose to be superior seed but not really same shit just packaged different.
I believe farmers will pay dearly a royalty to seed companies at time of delivery if they farm save.
How some can fiddle when Rome is burning.

My question to tom. Why to you believe that the Seed companies will not change the rules and take HRS same road as Canola.
Canola should be the crop that every farmer looks and sees what can happen when we believe the Companies.
1 to 14 and old are decommissioned.
      Ah what a great system.

Interesting that the US buyers look at the quality... And buy our wheat that has good falling numbers... No matter the variety.

I hauled CPS as dns, extra strong as dns, and cwrs as dns.

As we get through the high carryover inventories buyers look at mill spec.

We sold winter wheat as cwrs direct to flour mills.

Protien and falling number are the main issues... Ash and flour yeild are a factor but seldom critical to a mill grist... If harvested in decent shape.

If you truly think heritage wheat is a specialty for your farm there is nothing in the new rules that prevent you from growing seed and commercial milling wheat for millers. Without any fear of being charged any levy on either the common seed sales to other growers... Or milling wheat to the mills. The new rules extend to you more opportunity not less.

If you recall we have been through this before.

          Have a great day.

Start planning now... If you were careful it could be a rewarding experience.

Sask3 and Tom. I think you're both very good at repeating facts. How about some solutions?

Trying to keep everyone straight without a notepad.
Cotton. Your right on the IP programs. Which is contract law v law of the land.

Someone said they want to grow deregistered varieties yet another asked who pays if a market is pooched?

SF3 you said you seeded $70 canola v $20 wheat and it drowned out your decision

All "old" varieties will be grandfathered in. If you want to grow a 2014 variety paid for out of public system it will be there

Last night I saw some plots of spelt that are new varieties coming out of CDC program. Also saw a new durum that was midge tolerant with SM1 gene. When they cross that with the solid stemmed stuff we will eliminate many insect pests in durum.

Will answer more when time permits.
Keep the posts coming its important that people hear all sides and consider ramifications of what they are asking for.

I think we should go back to %100 percent public breeding program. Our universities used to do a great job producing varieties that worked. This should be funded by tax paid on export grains like a duty. How about the consumer paying instead of the farmer?

WHY DOES THE FARMER ALWAYS HAVE TO PAY? The customer should pay for these things like a tax. THE job of the government is to stop the SH1t from flowing downhill. Lets turn this boat around and let some others start paying!!!

                    Remember the variety Ebony?

Seeded into summerfallow (worked), with maybe 50 lbs of 12-51, and Edge were the inputs.

Yield 39.4 hauled in to the elevator (not some pic of someones yield monitor). The only time exceeded that yield was last year, ton of fertilizer, fungicde, and seeded in to chemfallow.

Yes, that expensive seed, its good for someone!
