They all kept the farmers share and divided the spoils. No trickle down, only crumbs for the peasants to keep them in business. Nothing ever changes, bulk commodity producers last to get paid, only if the rest of the chain has to, do they dangle a carrot.

Nothing stops us from going up the food chain.

One can crush his own canola and export oil. Fuel and human grades.

Likewise with wheat flour and whole oats etc.

Your right. I had a nice long talk with a very large farmer from Argentina. He said they don't sell any raw product. Own flour mill, CNL crusher and Butcher shop.
He said they would go broke if they sold into commercial system. Very interesting guy I think Canada has a lot of learning to do. Maybe can't implement all but some.

I thought about buying shares in the railways but my conscience wouldn't allow me to invest in a company that corrupt.

There are lots of investments that are good and are involved in agriculture.
Through a TFSA I do have a small amount of shares in Canadian Oil Sands, Alliance Grain Traders and one potash company.

Everything tried around here in the past years went broke, no thanks, eg Kelvington "peaola". Too small a fish swimming with mega corp sharks. Too close to retirement to risk it, but go for it young aggressive guys, you can do it.

Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung are the new communication utilities.

Rail, Tele, Internet, Gas, Power, transportation co's are needed... but a new generation has changed our society. Grocery stores, Fast Food, Walmart... could be a type of utility system, delivering products to people.

                Interesting times!

Maybe we should approach walmart to get into the inputs supply to us. Like em or hate em they do provide products at a low cost. Our current suppliers are all crooks in my opinion. I could tell you things about our local independent dealer that would boil your blood.

Seriously folks! So the CEO's of the RR's, Graincos, Fertilizer Companies, Agro suppliers and advisors are all conniving crooks out to steel as much money as they can from the poor, poor farmer? Actually, they are doing exactly what they were hired for - maximize profits, return on ROI, and provide shareholder value to attract further investment. Is that not what you're trying to do? I'll ask two questions. 1. Why do you feel so powerless as a fundamental part of the chain? You were provided with many examples in the past that weren't supported. 2. Do I have a revenue problem or a spending problem? For a bunch of free enterprisers you sure sound like a bunch of socialists running to the Government. Good luck with harvest.

Tom dont tell me your keeping up with all this ellectronic stuff. Our verhicles these days all electonics so that the cheapest vehicle can have almost the options of a cadillac. Not quite the ride. Who is building the parts for all this. That is where its at.

At wallmart you can purchase cheap oil or expensive oil. If one does not price check you canget screwed at costco. Is no one smart at business?

By the way, this wasn't bitching and moaning about anything but a lost investment opportunity. Nothing to do with a lack of winter rail service....

My comments weren't aimed at you farmaholic. They were an emotive response to a couple later posts that contained words like "corrupt" and "crooks" that set me off. I'm like 'grow up'! Stocks in Canadian rr's, banks and insurance companies are our 'blue chip' stocks and you can never go wrong. I stand by previous comments.
