Conventional canola

Anybody got any success stories this year with conventional canola. The only way seed prices come down is if growers start choosing do grow cheaper varieties. Last year there was some people who grew synergy polish. How did that do? Don't hear about it this year. I have seen canola production fields producing synthetic hybrids. Are any of these good to grow?

We didn't have any Synergy this year and dint know why. Coached a guy who is growing Synergy. Seeded July 3rd in Saskatoon area and has the best looking field of canola around... full bloom.


Our last year did within 5 bu of regular canola but with a little different management practices we could have pushed yields higher.


Way less nutrient use... don't put more than 60 lbs of N or it lodges and grows rank.


I'm going out to visit this guy today and will take some pics.


We have a quarter of it back in rotation for next year.

McFarms had I believe the old 46?variety! Basically we need to start growing these to show our selves the new expensive ones don't yield or perform any better than we used in the past!

Boy if it all looks that bad, that's not good. Was it hailed on or something. That looks like one of those plants that is sterile.

IN 2014 I GREW clearfield canola, disapointing at 1.4tons/acre
Also grew hybrid at £1.3t but winner was
conventional canola, cattana, 1.8 t/acre

Allot of biomass. Take pictures of when it is finished flowering and filled and re-submit. Our L130 looks "spindly" in comparison. Mind you, we don't sell the straw anyway...

Usually seen plants like that when we had seedling establiment wrecks. But ever since we got the BG 3320 PHD it hasnt happened. I should be waiting for drier spring before I crow to much.

I had synergy last year did pretty good.

This year I have 46A76 bin run seed.
It is looking pretty good.
I should know in 2 to 3 weeks how it yields.

49A76 was a good clearfield variety.
It lost out to Invigor that were being marketed at $35-$40 Acre herbicide/seed pkg at the time.
50 bu yield potential.
Lots of hard grinding at harvest.
Med to late maturity.
Group 2 weed control with sometimes zero Lambs-quarters control.
Pre-emergent burn will pay big dividends.
Great low risk value @ less than $500 seed cost. If you can source brown bag.
