"CHS Moving Forward With Spiritwood Fertilizer Plant — CHS Inc. will proceed with construction of a nearly $3 billion fertilizer manufacturing plant at Spiritwood, North Dakota. Groundbreaking will take place following completion of additional details, with the plant intended to be fully operational in mid-2018. CHS senior vice president Brian Schouvieller says they went back to the drawing board after the project was put on hold last April. “The project came back quite a bit more expensive than what we had anticipated. We went back and put together a different structure. We looked at the economics and started to move forward again. Thursday, our board of directors voted in favor of moving the project forward.†The fertilizer plant will be the single largest investment in CHS history, as well as the single largest private investment project ever undertaken in North Dakota. The majority of the nitrogen products from the plant will serve farmer-owned co-ops and independent farm supply retailers within a 200-mile radius of the plant."
