Farmaholic, maybe if we do a rain dance the clouds will stick around. I couldn't believe last night it just got down to 3 degrees and stayed there all night. Let's hope the same for tonight, then we are good for a day or 2. Fingers crossed - for sure!

Clouds moved off at about 6 last night and the grass is white this morning.

Sumdumguy: doesn't take much of a dance to get it to rain these days..... Don't want either frost or rain.

Was plus .5 at midnight. Then -1 at 1. Then -2 by 6AM.

Had that field of green canola I cut the other day. Scared to go look. Best canola I ever grew. Also my wheat will be hurt bad. Canaryseed it would have helped along, and late barley may be helped along as well. Soy and some flax will be toast. Lots of canola cut the last several days, but with plus 7 and 8 for highs, it never cured a bit, so there will be some damage I am sure.

Sick to my gut. How do you guys cope? I shut down under these circumstances. Like a hibernating bear. Sucks the drive right out of me.

                Freewheat; coping mechanisms:

                1- substance abuse
                2- medication
                3- resiliency
                4- denial

                Not necessarily in that order.

If you have a problem that can be fixed, then there is no use in worrying. If you have a problem that cannot be fixed, then there is no use in worrying.

I "try" not to worry about things I can't control. We are one of the most resilient, optimistic, adaptive, determined vocations there is.

Chin up Freewheat. Try not to let it grind you down.

Freewheat, are you with crop insurance?
Don't want to blow sunshine on you and can't tell what condition of your crop from here.
But swathed canola is somewhat protected from frost vs standing. Flax can take frost depending on maturity. Soybeans are amazing. There is usually a market for everything damaged, although not high prices. Probably you know all this, just a reminder. Do what you can, no one can do anymore than that.
