Looks like most canola packages are up around $2 an acre. Very disappointing. Thought they would have dropped the prices at least a little. Pretty sure their seed growers were paid less for seed this year then last year. Not sure what to do. Canola still pays the bills when you look at wheat and any feed price. Everyone can't grow flax. Mustard with our wet weather won't ripen and is full of weeds. My mustard fields look like I'm an organic farmer.

Just started combining the OP Canola.

It is all swathed and looking pretty good. Once we are finished combining it I will report back on how it did.

We have 3 quarters on some light land close to the Sandhills and we have 120 acres north of Prelate in some heavy clay.

Just got started combining in the lighter land on Friday and it rained again.
Hoping the weather is good for the next few weeks.
We have Prairie Sapphire Flax seeded again this year and it is looking really good. Wish we would have had more seeded in the place of Durum.

              Sounds good will do
We won't be cleaning flax till new year or it gets -25 or colder. It is easier to clean it when it is colder. If it is not cold it sticks to everything and it is hard to do a clean out on the cleaners after.

Dont get angry at the seed companies for raising the price of canola seed next year. Their cost of production goes up a little each year, like most other things. I think they too are upset that the grain cos harvested the bulk of profits in the 'value chain'. They want their share.

The idea of farmer owned and run seed companies and variety developers and owners is a dream for some.
Reality and changing times and attitudes make it likely that it it does not happen or will be short lived if it does.
A few farmer owned grain companies and input suppliers had fairly long lives but increasingly farmer willingness to support them is on the decline.
Better to invest our money in multi nationals than farmer owned entities.
                  Speaking from experience.

Jag why more flax than durum?? Seems odd... 35 flax @ 13 = 455... 55 durum at 9.40 (offered for my #1 13px last week = 517.. Then on top comes
The limited options for next year.. At least with the durum you have a pulse or oilseed option... Just curious on your thinking ..

We have not harvested any Durum yet.
From what I have been hearing there is not a lot of number one durum in our area . Lots of it is a # 5 and that is because there is no such thing as a #6 from what I have been hearing.
                      Mostly because of sprouts .
Our durum was not as ripe when all the rain came so I am hoping it is not sprouted or bleached too bad.
95% of our durum is seed production so I am hoping it still makes seed quality for germ, vigour and disease.

Not sure what the price is for # 4 or #5 durum .
