    Synergy Polish Canola Pics

This canola is a friends' who farms part time... we have been coaching him on agronomy... a way this year it got late for him so we suggested he try polish.

This was planted July 6th on sandy loam soil a few miles south of Saskatoon.

    Fertility was 65-20-0-10

Sprayed with muster and assure ii.

Polish is like argentine but it is not gmo.

You can sell it as nongmo if you want.

SYNERGY is a hybrid variety that takes 70 days... As far as yield goes probably looking at 30-40 bu an acre .

Seed is available thru Trawin seeds in Melfort Ash is awesome. .. you can get it bagged minibulk etc.

It is more nutrient efficient so DO NOT put 80 lbs of N on it or you will have a rank mess.. 65 on summer fallow like this pic is pushing it.

Yes it survived the frost. It looks green with my camera but it is a good 70% color change. I do believe it's getting swathed today.

It is not black leg resistant so you do need to budget for an application of Tilt or Quilt at herbicide time.

It is much hardier to flea beetles than argentine we have found... The hairs on the leaves make it unappetizing.

You'll have to phone Ash Trawin for what seed is worth. I do believe it's 4 or 5 bucks a lb clean and bagged in 50 lb bags.

You wan to seed 5 to 6 lbs an acre. That field was seeded at 6

wish i could still get 2573 liberty tolerant for 4-5 bucks a lb treated like we could back in the day.

I believe you can keep seed from synergy but being sort of a hybrid is that a good idea? Maybe one year? I have a patch of it and looks like 40 bushel crop.

Will be interesting if can hold weeds down with edge lontrel muster gold like we used to. Was a challenge. Switching to rr and liberty was so convenient and fields became clean. Polish grows fast should help.

                          Interesting option, great pictures Klause.
If you get information of the yield or a cost comparison with RR after harvest let us know. This is a variety I would be interested in trying.

                          Pros:
                          70 day maturity
                          Lower nitrogen cost
Cheaper seed, less than half price
                          Can market as non-GMO

                          Cons:
                          Higher herbicide costs vs RR
                          Weed control?
                          Not blackleg resistant
                          Not treated for flea beetles

Will do.... it was swathed today.

The D3553 seeded 12 days earlier next to it will be swathed in a week or so. will have real good yield results after that (direct to elevator weigh slips).

Flea beetles aren't really a concern. We've had polish canola before... they will attack treated argentine long before they ever go into a polish field. The hairy nature of the plants keeps them off.

Herbicide cost is $15/ac if you only use Assure II and Muster.

You can swap out the Muster for Lontrel and it would b e18 bucks, but give you good control of all thistle type plants, and dandelions.

If cleavers are a problem, clever can be added for another 10 bucks an acre.
