I was told the seat safety can't be messed with or even fooled.

Personally I like those shields on any machine I go to buy. Nothing worse than the last farmer throwing them in his junk pile. They are there for a reason, just because you know it dangerous doesn't mean your wife or your kids do!! Ever see older farmers without all there fingers? Would hate to have think about that time he or she got killed because I took off that shield.

Safety is a state of mind...21 percent of farm deaths are directly related to farm equipment.
To claim that equipment is safer without shields... is beyond common sense. If there is an actual flaw in a shield ... then a good solution with the manufacturer needs to be found for all involved.
Please Be safe... Life is VERY fragile.

One major consideration with shields is if you have employees. You will be deemed negligent if someone gets hurt and a shield is missing. I dislike them too and years ago threw them off. But not when I started having hired help. FYI the John Deere seat switch can be bypassed. It is on the combine I operate myself. It allows me to move around get a sample or go for a walk if the field is even. Just use a trunk or glove box light switch and push it for a second every 5 hours or so or you will get a warning. Then you have to push it or eventually the combine will shut down. DISCLAMER ( I DID NOT RECOMMED THIS )

Agreed on California duster. Wash windows very well before harvest. Use the duster every night at shut down, work all season. If it's extra dusty in the day use it then.
