Real active human ebola is present in North Americac

A confirmed ebola case is now in North America (Dallas TX). And anyone exposed to the disease during a four day period about a week ago will be put in isolation for a three week period.

    "Houston" "we've got a problem"

Google CNN ebola for the report. I don't expect anyone is in good hands.

Interesting that it has now spread to N. America when they have finally developed a vaccine where people can afford to pay for it.

How much intelligence is needed to NOT allow any airplanes/ships to leave Africa for NA? Idiots, isolate the place. Asking for trouble, just watch this escalate exponentially. "Resident Evil" here we come!

Quarantine everyone wanting to leave Africa for 3 weeks before they can leave instead of after they get where they are going.
Surely they knew 3 weeks ago they were coming to visit relatives.

Shows how greed will do us all in whether it's bringing in these workers that 25 percent are supporters of terrorism or just allowing planes to fly to these places of illness etc for tourism dollars.

Oh, here we go again! I thought Avian Bird Flu was supposed to kill me, or was it Norvirus, I can't remember. And then there was Y2K - the breakdown of society and the beginning of anarchy. So let's play Joe Friday for a moment - "Just the facts ma'am".
            1. Ebola is lethal, 50% death rate if untreated.
            2. It is only transmitted by bodily fluids and is not air borne so far.
            3. The outbreak is in 3rd world Africa where there is poor health care, poor water supply, practically no sanitary sewage disposal and poor hygiene, lacking simple things like soap and clean towels. So, yeah, it's going to spread.
            4. This is not the first case in the US. What about the two aid workers who were returned home, treated and then released.
            5. There is an effective vaccine that works.
            6. So far, around 3,000 have died from Ebola. That's less than the annual number of Canadians who die from the run of the mill flu. So, are you going to get a Flu shot this fall in case you come down with it around Christmas and infect your Great Aunt Edna who expires later on? Or are Flu shots just another Government conspiracy?
Let's try to keep things in perspective. The problem is being addressed.

A little bit of knowledge is always very dangerous.

There may be a vaccine for true monkeys. I haven't heard of any monkeys being vaccinated; let alone any human beings.

When rockpile or anyone gets uncerimoniously taken off to quaranteen for three weeks as a precaution for shaking the hand or aacidentally sittingd on the same chair in a doctors office on one of the same 4 days that a fellow was deemed potentially infectious; then rockpile et al will not ever have such a cavalier attitude towards a disease that has the potential to overwhelm any health care system.

I would suggest that if a famiy or friend ever is diagnosed with ebola that it will be a day that you will remember for the rest of your life. In this country; there would be no hospital visits under any circumstances; although I have no doubt that some complete idiots would not understand why they can not exercise their right to do as they please.

Anything is still out of control when it is growing and speading at an expotential rate. With no treatment for the infectious agent itself; no one should be confident that "it is being handled" by not cancelling your safari; flying and travelling to any destination you please; burying your head in the sand and denying that serious diseases should be viewed with the deepest respect. There are some people who could never comprehend that any infectious agent (especially viruses) can even mutate on a moments notice into any apocylpse.

If you sleep well tonight; at least do a little more thinking tomorrow morning.

Im with Rockpile on this one. Where did SARS disappear to? I have not heard about SARS in Canada ever since our economy settled lower than the USA economy at that time.

When the exponential growth rate gets turned into a decline in the number of active cases then I'll count on such people reporting the good news.

Until then your're playing with a lot more than fire.

                    Government conspiracy?????

There's no doubt their was similar thinking when about eight agood samaritans working in Africa were recently murdered because they were thought to be spreading the disease.

There's always two sides to a story and then there is reality and other angles as well.

Last i heard the doubling rate was 1 month,so thats good.

If it goes air borne all bets are off.

The problem i would worry about is if it did get loose you would probably see all commerce stop then the lights would go out.

My guess is that diseases don't "disappear:

They spread at faster or slower or even become under control through various efforts at treatment, control vaccines etc.

But with millions and trillions of throws of the genetic dice in any new case and outbreak; one can never predict when a more virulent or mutated variant rears its new head.

And there are commonly reservoirs in fruit bats and wild animals (or pets)) that could one day mutate into new problems.

Beware those who claim there is absolutely no need for worry or concern. If this epideic isn't gotten on top of very soon we will indeed reach the point of no return for most (but certainly not all).

Many of those survivors may however wish that they had perished

Incubation period is up to three weeks so doubling cases in a month maybe isn't real good .

Numbers aren't real shocking when going from deaths of 128 to 256 or even 1024 to 2048.. But now we are maybe the 4096 or 9182 "steps" of those who have contracted this disease (with past cases including survivors no doubt at least a few thousand more.) Those figures reach millions or billions when left unchecked (and in mere handfuls of itinerations).

As cotten will confirm; the one undisputable fact is that if the next doubling does occur (and it surely will and no doubt is still hidden in an incubation period that is ticking away at this very moment).........the one sure thing is that at the moment of that last doubling is completed........more people were infected in that doubling period of about one month than had been infected in all the previous time since that ebola strain was first detected and tracked.

And that needs to be scary shit; for everyone. Its the perfect example of how doubling can become a run away; and will be become a runaway if controls aren't effective.

I'm not real concerned about it hitting us to hard...yet but i do think we could see a major tragedy, the spin off effects will be interesting,it will be horrible to watch.
