    Hard Red Wheat varieties ??

How did diff varieties perform this year ?
We had mostly Goodeve again , yielded very well again but on the edge of lodging with fert program and tough to get protien above 13.5
Was impressed with Carbery , much shorter , thrashed far easier and protien was up to 1 point higher , no lodging what so ever.
New Syngenta wheat was not good at all , lodged bad , very heavy straw and 10 bus off Goodeve but protien similar to Carbery - will never grow it again
I hear Muchmore is a very good shorter variety , and stetler has looked good in this area as well

My goodeve stood good and yielded not bad but my 5603 did way better on yield and protein but lodged. Carberry looked good haven't garvested yet.

Utmost leaned but so did all others just like canola, low fuz, 2cwrs, easy to thresh, 65lbs, 52 bu/acre. Would like to try Carbery.

We grow Shaw but would like to change. We picked it for midge tolerance but it appears to be more susceptible to fusarium. Last year it was fantastic this year not as good. It lodged pretty bad this year where it was fed well.

It is hard to pick a variety, there are no silver bullets. Strong in some areas and weak in others, you basically have to pick your battle....

Hard to imagine with all this "research", we have buggar all for short, fusarium resistant wheat varieties that we can count on. Me thinx these so-called researchers are just wasting time, dragging their feet. After all, its in their best interests to delay until their retirement. That way they can milk the system and the farmers for all it's worth. If I sound sceptical, maybe it is because I am, Hopalong!

here in the south east we grow Glenn. Its a US variety. It yields well, doesn't lodge, protein is ok for the most part. Negative's are hard to thresh and heads will break off if left standing for too long. As we are in a higher fusarium area, im looking south for varieties that work well in Renville and Bottineau counties. I like some of the Syngenta varieties in the US but until we get a more streamlined dual registration process its a struggle to bring wheat up to plant. Faller wheat is another wheat with great potential up here but major issues with registration as the rights holder in Canada has made it a closed loop system.

On our home farm, Glenn is what we've been growing, but my point is where the H is all our "research" money going? To a bunch of foreign grad students who don't know squat about what they are doing or what they are trying to accomplish.

Al Slinkard did an excellent job with Lentils cause he was local, focussed on the market target and figured out how to get there.

Good job looking to the U.S. For fusarium resistant varieties.

Grew some Stettler and Go this year. Go out yielded but more fuz and lower pro. Stettler is a little weaker on disease resistance in our area but good protein. Will try it again but also have some concerns on lodging. We are on Sask/Mb border so always have more humidity and generally wetter conditions.

                        Unity here

Good FHB resistance... good yield. Solid stemmed and midge tolerant

Grew Stanley last year was a good yielder but lodged bad. Didnt grow it this year because of that

Lodged wht right now is costing some guys - imo - the most important asset on every farm - TIME ...well, and fuel lol
