What a stupid system. Sell your crop just above the cost of production then "participate" in the "market" by buying calls and puts and making margin calls.

A while back furrow said it well, buy a farm, give it a try. Armchair farmers with absolutely no skin in the game advising those who have their necks stretched over the chopping block with their asses bare to the breeze.

bucket, an elevator will pay you the lowest amount possible to make the largest profit for themselves.

It isn't rocket science.

There are other ways to get more for wheat.... If more people started trading and working the markets... using brokers... selling to end users (we have that freedom now)... elevators tonnage they handle goes down. As that happens, they become more competitive.


I point black told a grain buyer yesterday. Good luck. At your prices not a tonne of grain will hit your pit.

For all my faults (and there are many), I put do put my name out every time I speak. I can be held accountable. I like it that way. Makes things fun here for and is an advantage I have everyone else that posts here.

I suspect my experience with the CWB and UGG has provided a pretty background in the mechanics of how the market works logistically and more important, how they manage risk (delivery and price). At the end of the day that is my role.

Having said, don't know why I am wasting a beautiful day inside.

The graincos took a minus 2 dollar basis all winter. Got farmers to call their MPs on their behalf about rail movement.

They use mpls future and won't convert to cdn dollars and they won't use the canadian markets because they would have to.

Then to top it off they get farmers to pay the freight and elevation to the coast and sell the grain for over 10 bucks a bushel.

There is no risk other than the government catching onto their scam but won't considering how they botched the open market and the rail file.

Oh shit are we talking about the graincos or the old cwb. I can't tell the difference.
