I heard CHS made a good offer for it.... or is planning to.

Would be the best outcome. New competition.

Interestingly I am finding fairer grading and better pricing with LDM Cargil and Grain Millers than anything our home grown clowns have right now.

Richard son's pricing grading and programming is insane.

Do you guys think the independents would have sold to the big players?

The new cwb is just another exercise in consolidation using government guarantees. And then a gift to the company that promises the most board seats.

The cwb should have been able to compete unless in reality their skills were nor as good as they have been claiming.

But they needed a top down housecleaning first.

Change was needed but The mistake was that farmers should have kicked the Gov't out instead of the gov't kicking the farmers out.

Are there any successful large farm type "co-ops" anywhere else in the world? What did their government do or not do? The attitude of the society it grew in and competency of management?
In my personal analysis the (_ _ _) was in trouble years ago. Do we feel better blaming someone for failure when there are many brokers/agents of raw commodity world wide with no bricks and mortar?
And who shall we blame? Everyone.

              Blackpowder,

If the CWB had used 1 iota of common sense... they would have worked with growers instead of blocking value added and giving marketing benefits to the grain co's. It was truly insane the 'single desk' rhetoric growers had to put up with... the monopoly benefited the grainco's and railways more than anyone else in western Canada! The CWB didn't stop one rail line closure... or elevator consolidation.

The old CWB 'buyback' was wholly abusive and anticompetitive. It lowered the price of our grain in western Canada! The CWB had no more market power before... than it has now...grain logistics always has been... and always will be the main equalizer in transparent pricing and arbitrage.
We can't ask for more than the market value of our produce... or subsitution occurs... either by another supplier or another product!

The old CWB spent all its time trying to brain wash growers into supporting a system that was alone meant to allow merchants in western Canada the right to undercut any other grain grower on the planet. Since they had the right to do this... the millers and end users expected the lowest price in a competitive market from my farm. I was told so straight to my face by a British Miller.

And I am supposed to somehow ignore all the facts I had to live with under the old CWB system... and want to go back to the lies, cheating, and theft we here forced to endure?

All For the sake of Left Wing rhetoric and theory which has always failed and cannot endure long term economic reality!

The US growers have one of the most complex efficient co-operative marketing systems for farmers in the world! CHS. Why wouldn't either Federated Co-operatives or CHS be the best managers of a grower based grain marketer... with a track record worth looking back at in economic management and value for member performance!

              Cheers!

                  BTW,

I have not seen FNA do anything that would convince me they have the structure or management capability to run a major business. PLEASE don't be sucked in by fast talking salesmen that have NO track record. We had this with the CWB... no need to make the same mistake over again!

                      Bucket,

Since August 1 2012 every bushel of wheat sold on our farm was done without a gun to our head and at a reasonable price. Wheat on our farm is a cash crop... and we can save Canola to sell later! Flax is much better as folks are NOT forced to sell to pay bills... wheat can now pay bills!

This isn't right wing politics... it is simple economics!

                      Cheers!
