    Avadex Question

Can I use my air seeder to blow on dry avadex? I have a 2320 cart.

No valmar, no access to one. Floater guy can not go that low apparently, and blending with fert won't work so they say cuz it sorts in the tank.

    Why or why not?

Sounds like it should work to me...

Why not, hey? A guy should be able to move right along, huh?

Are you talking this fall or during seeding in spring through a broadcast kit?

If you're not using a broadcast kit watch out for striping especially with 10 inch row spacing. I've never done it but that's what I'd be worried of unless its getting heavy harrowed after for maximum mixing.

Liquid avedex mixed in with your spring burnoff works great I find, but not sure which crop you're using this in. I use it on trouble fields of flax and canola and usually just patches. My OM is too low for cereal applications.

Good luck, Avedex is an under utilized chem that is super flexible in the resistance fight.

Back in the eighties, guys used to apply Avadex with their WilRich air seeders. They used to put little deflector plates under the seed boot. It worked really well.

Your 2320 will be accurate enough. You just need a way to get even coverage.

My guy runs it thru his terra gator all the time with either 50 lbs K or whatever amount of AS.
I would be skeptical of blowing out seeder boots.

for sure you can, use your canola roller.

I wish they had an edit button. I might be nervous about having strips maybe harrowing twice across the way you broadcast would fix that problem or running higher fan speeds. We hire a floater and they put 60lb of urea down at the same time so the chain is moving a good speed. This is to eliminate skips when they turn on the product. They have 2 bins on the floater so they do not blend the avadex with the fert.

I plan to use it for canary. I also have read about liquid with burnoff, but there is a lot of residue that I worry about tie-up with. Canola stubble, but lots of material.

Anyone use liquid avadex with burnoff and high residue?

I did plan to harrow after if possible.

Am on 12 inch spacing. With the drill up high, and high fan speed, I would hope it would offer good coverage, but I too wondered about the stubble acting to catch the dang granules and keeping it in the rows your openers are over at the time???

Maybe I pop the hoses out and cable tie 'em up a bit? Shoot the product at the shanks or something to get it to scatter?

What are avadex granules like? Are they rounded or blocky or??? Lighter than urea, for example?

Would be using the 15.2 lb an acre rate...

Ok, so it is 35 or so lbs a cubic foot. Kinda not dense. You would think it would blow all to heck with high fan speeds. When I turn the corner at the headlands, I notice pretty uniform spreading of seed and product with wheat and seed blend if the old frame lift switch is having one of those days! Stuff bouncing all over the place.

I dunno if I will get a window for this fall. What does up to freeze up mean? I guess what diff does it make if the soil is frozen or not? You do not want it activated before spring anyway, so does it matter. Or does freeze up mean when you just can't move anymore?

We use our floater and put it down using the granular box with Tiger 90 as the carrier. U are correct on density and rate. If u can get on field yet it is a great time to do it as it wont activate. We dont harrow it til spring just before seeding. Excessive trash might be a problem but we havent had too many issues. I would be concerned about the spacing on your drill freewheat but possibly worth a shot. Let us know how it goes.
We use liquid in spring and works good but dont like the 2 harrow passes before seeding.

I would impregnate fertilizer and use it as a carrier and get someone to float it on or rent a spin spreader. You'll get better distribution and shake it down to the soil better.

If you can get it done in the fall, in my experience it works much better in the fall than the spring, you need to harrow at least once twice is better.

Harrowing is a waste of time. Makes more weeds grow than the avedex kills

Rent a Valmar spreader and do it right. With a good autotrac system coverage should be easy to track.
