    Braveheart, you are happy, good for you. I am happy too, don't grow durum and last year i didn't give my wheat away for 5 bucks a bu....

    The discussion here is about what it wrong with the system and hopefully how to potentially fix it. When we have price discrepancies like we do right now in the durum market right now I think its worth talking about. We shouldn't have trucks running south 2 and 300 miles that is why we have things called elevators and railways.

      I'm just confused re price discrepancies as some posting to this thread have had strong bids on this side of the border.

      The interesting thing is recently, hrs street prices have been better in southern MB than in ND. ND still has poor rail service that is hurting cash prices.

        "Cash bids today in North Dakota for #1 Milling Durum range from USD$15.00 to $17.00. When the CWB held their monopoly on durum, there were so many chicken little media types, it sounded like a hen house (me included). Today the disparity is as wide as it has ever been and crickets. Some grain companies across the border have signed agreements with Canadian companies and will no longer take Canadian durum direct from farms and or farmer direct via railcar. I’ve seen this movie before and walked out. Canadian bids have stalled at $12.00 delivered for #1 12.0 protein. Thunder Bay shipping opportunities will dry up in 2-3 weeks."

        He has a chart showing the discrepancy in durum price from ND to sask is higher than it has EVER been.

            I was hoping some of the others mentioned in that letter would explain their comments.

            I don't care if it's the cwb or graincos - just be consistent in thought about the price differentials. To be so against the cwb to let graincos steal even more is just ****ing ignorant. And immoral when some have the ear of government.

              Sold 30 rail cars of 80%hvk milling durum at $15.75US loaded rail car fob south west sask headed for Chicago Did I have that option with the single desk, NO. Do I care what the Canadian companies are currently paying for that grade, NO.

                  Cars were booked for June July and never showed so grain was shipped by truck at cost of buyer. Cars were kept on outstanding orders and were confirmed for next week shipping.

                      Doesn't Viterra still own Dakota Growers? They can make whatever arrangements they want. There are other options.
