    So Ritz is thinking of letting the order in council expire for grain movement? Let's see, grain movement was horrible all winter with over $2 basis levels which meant billions of lost wealth. 'Coincidentally', as the weather warms up, he brings in an OIC to mandate grain movement, which would have moved anyways with spring weather. When the RRs didn't make the targets, he says he would fine them but didn't give an amount, and then quietly changes the fines from $100,000/day to $100,000/week, both of which are chickenfeed even relative to just the salary of their CEO, let alone compared to the magnitude of the corporations. Now that winter is coming, he is removing the OIC which will let RRs and grain companies screw us on basis again. All his 'action' really did nothing and did not make any changes to how rail service and rail investment should/could improve in future years.

    Very disappointing. All politics, absolutely no long term policy. Makes it looks like he did something for the urban media and for cabinet but absolutely nothing long term.

    Ok I'll say it the man is a idiot! Watch after politics he will sit on either a grain company board, railway, or oil!
    He cost me over a quarter million dollars on my excess grain from last year! Tough to market your excess grain when you can't deliver on August contracts with #1 high protein wheat!
    This is insane they will screw us Again!

        For sure SF3. But many are happy doing the blending for the US crop instead of letting the market being forced to come to Canada.

        Ritz just shitcanned that by rescinding the OIC. He just put the graincos back in control.

        The graincos should be monitored all the time. The graincos knew they would have to answer for the mess last year so some paper bags changed hands and the problem is solved.

        Can't find it hard to believe tho because guys like to wear out semis and roads instead of using rails to the states.

          That review has already been written.

          The fact ritz rescinded the order says nothing will change.

          Graincos were given back control. And the railways never lost control over the whole thing.

          Fines disappeared as soon as the court case was mentioned.

            Anyone know how to find out how many outstanding producer cars are on order at any given moment?

                I disagree that this is written and I am willing to expend some energy on this. You see, this is an issue of national competition and this is a government with a trade file that was just fed up an orifice from lack of logistical performance that began with rail.

                    it is real simple , dont give your grain away . remember cost of production . otherwise , no use in growing it . grain co's are losing control right now , its obvious. don't give in to their horseshit.

                      The question to producers is can the trade file be met by filling terminal capacity and producer cars, smaller shippers be they value add or niche markets. Disabling competition may not be the best road to decreasing basis.

                        We had wooden elevators and that system is coming back in the form of producer cars.

                        If the government forces service it can easily handle the volume.

                        you know I doubt anyone in North dakota trucks their grain like we do here.

                        And they have a STB with teeth.

                            I would imagine Stephen had little choice. His security detail would be calling the shots (no pun).

                            We were in New Orleans (short holiday) when the attack happened. The Americans there that spoke to us about the incident were amazed at how well spoken, calm, and tough our PM sounded. Obama in contrast, sounded weak, slightly confused and impotent.

                              Now how to get the avadex to work. I would prefer using liquid. Can you still get that? I want to plant it early if can. So can I spray liquid may one. Harrow before planting on may 5 th and expect the avadex to work?
