Did you use the avenge on canary klause? Worried about damage. I was intent to use 30 lbs of potash Some local use here confirming to use it. Wondering what others use. Liquid avadex is out, my canola stubble has a complete even covering of chaff and straw right now so unless I blacken it with a limken spray liquid then harrow once. Can a person spread granular now and harrow in spring?

Ya. That's what we used. Doesn't seem hard on canary at all.

        Balanced nutrition is important.

You need to harrow it right away... just rent that phoenix valmar thingy from horizon. Could do lots in a hurry.

Regarding the K. Many studies show it is the Cl in the Potash that enhances canary yields. Kind of an interesting fact.

I never found Avenge to be hard on the crop, it is just that it is hard to get, and it is such a strange window.

You guys need to google avadex and its use. There is a lot of information that states that the less tillage, harrowing, etc. the better the control, IF APPLIED IN THE FALL.

Do not go by the chemical book suggestions, they are not really up to date. Many studies have been done where the less disturbance the better, esp. under a zero till regime for several years. I am not going to get mine on this fall. Still snow and pathetic highs. Today for example our high is -1. Saskatoon is plus 8. Stupid!

That's true free wheat but it still needs to hit dirt.

Avadex won't work if it is on trash... which is hoppers problem...

Kinda funny how these old chems (avadex edge etc) are making a comeback eh?

Thanksnfornthe tip freewheat. You are correct. It is possible to apply avadex granules on a high rate of residue coverage in min till without incorporation providing residue is currently spread evenly. Not likely to get it done this fall either.

Freewheat. Just got off phone with guy from Gowan Canada. He says now is still a good time to apply avadex. Give me lots of info on what people are doing. Some actually put on frozen ground or even on light snow. My situation with the thick canola trash but good harrow job is also possibly good although not labelled but is what people do. I asked if can put on my 90 percent plus trash layer now with no incorporation and seed into it in spring and apparently from what he says lots of people up here are doing just that And canola stubble is best to do it in And prefer this time line to do it. Now I dont believe everything I hear but I feel he is correct. Spider senses. Can anyone talk me out of it? Going ahead like neutered cat out of stove pipe. Actually maybe start wednesday damb weekend.

We have applied granular avadex to untouched 50bu per acre canola stubble harrowed twice after with good results

One thing is avadex is best kept in a shallow layer As possible with good mixing. Canary especially the planting seed needs to be below the treated layer. Apparently if spread properly soil mixing is not neccessary. It activates in soil with moisture and temperature. Each granule will spread in a radius around it.

Sorry to be cynical guys but it amazes me how before the no-till era these granular products needed to be incorporated(twice) at certain depths at right angles to each other, yadda yadda yadda, then over time, farming practices change and it is suddenly good enough to spread on top and at the very most, harrow. I'm sure(hopefully) actual tests have been done to prove it's efficacy. Avadex is a nice break from group 1 and 2.

Farmaholic avadex was always recommended shallow as it works as wild oats grow through the layer. Treflan was is recommended deeper into the seed zone where the weeds germinate.

Which Gowan rep did you talk to?

They were at blairs and got thoroughly botched out for recommending applying it off label... When it doesn't work they apparently tell you you are sol and on your own just something to think about

Basically you need it in contact with dirt for it to work. You don't want it in the seed row so spreading in spring and then running the master over it would work the granules in too deep.

I don't get why you wouldn't get that phoenix from horizon and be done with it... Wouldn't take much longer than just a valmar.

UAP did quit Making avenge in 2012... I found 2 pallets though in Manitoba if you want to use it.
