Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressed the country hours after the attack on Parliament last week. Harper told Conservative MPs Wednesday he was sorry he left them during the attack by gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau. (The Canadian Press)
Harper hid in a closet while leaving the Conservative MP's in the room he was meeting them in to take on any gunmen that may break through the doors. Many of those MP's are women.
I guess Harper feeling a little guilty now.

I would imagine Stephen had little choice. His security detail would be calling the shots (no pun).
We were in New Orleans (short holiday) when the attack happened. The Americans there that spoke to us about the incident were amazed at how well spoken, calm, and tough our PM sounded. Obama in contrast, sounded weak, slightly confused and impotent.

Harper was hidden BY someone. In any country on the planet, they would have done the same thing: hidden the leader of the country.
He probably is more human than most other leaders or the cbc will admit, so he feel bad that he had to be hidden during that time.
A security guard was covering the ndp's doorway with his body for petes sake, and nearly took a bullet doing so, and that was Mulcair for crying out loud.
Protecting leadership is serious business/
Of course they are going to try and keep them safe.

A little surprised the left on here can only find this to comment on. Actually surprised that I've heard no new mention of property confiscation ( guns).

I could only imagine what would be posted on here if it was another party leader that had acted in this brave matter. The self proclaimed "rights" would have there keyboards worn out.

Forage, you are so lame. Everyone would agree that ALL Canadian leaders need protecting regardless of party lines.
The enemy is extremists. No matter race, religion, or gender. Extremists.

What was he supposed to go? Go out in the hall and see what the root cause of the gun fire was? If he would have done that and got injured or killed you'd be talking about how stupid he was for putting himself in danger.

Do you remember the day President Kennedy was shot? What a sitting duck he was! Can't imagine his not being protected. Same for our PM. Protocol would very likely point to " hide him before anyone else".

In the old days the "general" was the man leading the charge in a battle; the captain of the ship was the last one to leave a sinking ship and the hero was the man who put himself in danger in order to try to save someone in trouble. Especially so for women and those less able to protect themselves.
But nowadays it seems pretty easy to spin that to deflect attention in other ways.
Things have evolved; and protecting women and children is probably secondary nowadays. It may even be most about self preservation coming first.
