Tom, the buyback was only to maintain the integrity of the single desk, so no one could go around it.

The Canadian Wheat Board does NOT exist today. Its' most important feature, the thing that defined it, was the single desk. We have an open market now. Something different is there, in the same building with a few of the same people, but they take orders from the federal government and not a farmer elected board.

Again, still, and unavoidably: we have a much smaller portion of the port price than we used to get. Without the old CWB we is bein' robbed. Money that we used to get is goin' somewhere else. WE HAVE LESS NOW THAN WE DID BEFORE!!!

There is a role today for the CWB, but the political will to install management to make it work are not there. Why? Because the government never put them there. Another government squanders a priceless opportunity.

GREAT! Producers could really use a GOOD marketing tool to keep everyone honest that truly works in their best interest. Au contrare, dear Tom, the producers do have an interest in the CWB.

More fairytales about the cwb eh? Yep the cwb made farmers billions every year, its just too bad that they never had canola under their control, then we would'nt have to worry about the crushers making too much money. Because there would be no crushers, but i'm sure the cwb would still have made us more billions. I sold my first 25% of 2014 wht. for 8.08 per bus. in my pocket the day after i hauled it in, but i bet i woud've got 10.00 thru the cwb. ya right!

All the Harper haters should be asking themselves "What would Samy Watson do?"

The last two paragraphs of the article say it all.

CptObvious,

PM Harper and Minister Ritz do NOT run the CWB today... just in case you forgot.

Your 'rose coloured glasses' and short distorted memory... do NOT convince me in any way... that the CWB did anything with the 'single desk' except provide western Canadian grain growers with a below average price for our grain. And the CWB did a great job... of making sure we all got below average... because guess what!

All the international grain buyers the CWB dealt with wanted to buy... when there was a deal on below average grain in western Canada. Plus... we growers were forced to store this grain for nothing after we were forced to sell at a below average price.

Cheers!

Tom, I see that you're still "full of it". Getting rid of the CWB sure didn't provide much security for farmers that I have noticed. Most are more anxious than ever and their frustration with the present system bubbles up constantly on this forum. Your friends in the grain trade are happier though...so at least your efforts weren't in vain.

i myself dont give a dam about the majority weirdo, i usually do the opposite of the majority because a lot of times they are wrong.sold my wheat today 20000 bu at 8.45 a bu on a very small farm.over the years i out sold the cwb on barley every year(how could that happen with these union government experts lol)i already told u guys buying back my wheat from the arrogant cwb and still making dollar a bu more than the cwb.question-whats the most ineffecient poeple in the world, ans union gov poeple.we have a few big shot cwb farmers in our area who are a joke selling grain.who would lock in 5.50 wheat at harvest(47000bu).the bigshot farmers who like shitting on poeple.i laugh at them and tell them how much i sell my grain for.screw the union gov cwb.

Harry Truman's mother refused to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom. 90 years after the fact. _ _ _? Same shit.
Captain Oblivious is in the true revisionist tradition. Trying to rewrite history after the fact to justify his existence to a new world that has all but passed him by. Ho hum.
