Since we're in the doldrums after a protracted harvest, I'll throw out something equally silly. Last weekend I pawned off my old 50 inch rear projection tv. Now I'm looking for new technology - a 50 to 60 inch led, possibly curved. Looking at on line reviews, there really isn't any manufacturer out there getting 5 out of 5. So, any guidance on your own experiences? That would be appreciated.

I paid 1500 extra also for the newest thing a few years back. Look at the pictures in store. Unless you got blueray they are all the same. And in fact in store they play a speciallly made tape just for selling tvs. They are not that good at home. Thatsaid now spend up to two grand I would not buy over 50 inch. Spend 1 to 2 thousand on the surround system. Sound makes movies awesome.

For some living rooms you may think bigger tv is better. These new tvs are ok to watch closer and in my opinion are better to watch smaller 50 inch closer than a 60 inch further away. You can adjust your distance.. That said when your not on high def the smaller will be more pleasant. For if its not all high def think about it.

First requirement is an HD receiver, second, Samsung LED rated #1 or close to it. Our 8000 series is fantastic picture quality. They are low repair too. Our 55" is good at 12' viewing distance. For larger you need more distance. Third is a surround sound system with 700 or so watts, 150 watt sub woofer and six speakers, Enjoy!

I will be upgrading soon too. But have come to the realization this tech race is one I will never win. If you always wanted to be on the leading edge of tech you'd spend alot of money.
Apparently the new 4K is amazing but nothing is broadcast in it. Anyone knkw anything about it?

brother is in a shareholder in a huge appliance store 50 mill turn over knows his stuff, I bought a 50 inch Samsung 12 month old technology flat screen he said it still way superior to latest and greatest including smasung as well, made comment tvs are going backwards now sort of peaked out technology wise and looking for "new" gimmicks such as curved screens etc. ps when he became a shareholder in this franchise it had 7mill turn over and built it up over last 12 years guess what they made more profit when it was smaller way more staff etc etc and all red tape that goes with mega bussnisess

Just through out my 450 pound 29 inch sony trinitron that i bought over twenty years ago. Still worked but took up alot off storage space and you cant even give them away. Companies have wised up to the fact they cant make any money if there product lasts forever

Never pays to buy latest greatest tv. Any 50-60" led for $800-$1200 is all u need, little difference in quality. If you want a smart tv, then check processor size a speed, and how you like their browser and apps. Why do u want a curved tv? This too is just a gimmick to sell new tvs, bad idea, and not good if you watch tv with others not sitting in line with the screen.
