I think what we had in Europe was maybe fairer. Farm fuel was strictly for field use. But then you have an enforcement issue.

If you are an average motorist and are too stupid to pull over for a combine or a truck carrying a combine well in advance, I say thanks for my pickup charge costing 2000 bucks because they need pilot vehicles.
I also say thank you for those that thought elevator consolidation was a good idea. Maybe you could talk to graincos and thank them for pushing grain past the local 10000 tonne facility down the highway to moose jaw.
Yup for sure farmers are to blame for governments that allowed it to happen without looking at the impact of their decision.
It use to be combine could be deliver locally by train. And that was when you didn't have to order it 6 months in advance. Now they can't schedule it.

Sumdumguy, land taxes vary a lot between municipalities and how large the industrial base is. In my County, on cultivated dry land it's just slightly under a buck a deeded acre. That's one of the lowest. BTO - we have a rainy day fund but heaven help the politician who decides to raid it.
