marketing wheat other than HRS

We are sitting on a crop of #1 HRWW with better than 11 protein. No fusarium period. Best bid for any month from our beloved graincos is like 5.40. Ontario over 8 bucks, close to that in Montana.

WTF!

I see not much better for CPS with Kansas market hotter than Minn. I though with an open market these smaller classes of wheat would see better times.

HRS basis is better but we are getting hosed on forex movements there still as well.

We are pricing some of our HRS for this and next year on this rally, but know we should be getting better prices.

When the hell is someone in the trade going to arbitrage this market.

Something really stinks about how this market is working for us. Do not tell me it was better under the CWB because that structure had no discipline either. Do not blame it on rail either, they are only one element of the value chain, and while they have there issues they alone contribute to the issue but not alone are the cause.

We need more transactional transparency like the US farmers get and that is definitely one of the solutions.

We farm a long way from the US border unfortunately otherwise I would arbitrage it with my truck.

That is frustrating, running into similar trouble with CPS. Crazy thing is local elevator(Waldron ask) was running a special for feed wheat (April May delivery) for $5.50. Seems like a shame and ripoff to have to sell milling wheats into that market. I feel your pain on HWW. My brother has chicken barns and we finally ended up feeding it to the chickens.

Bids come and go for various types of cereals on the FarmLead Marketplace. Not discounting what your normal marketing strategy is or the buyers that you normally deal with. P.S. though - Sean doesn't work at WA Grain anymore - that's part of our proactive risk management process.

A semi is cheaper in US, lumber, fruit etc. if your not prepared to go south for the deal suck it up and deal locally. Opportunities exist out there to get better bids but most guys don't look for them and if they look they're not prepared to drive the distance to go get them.

The smaller classes of wheat aren't in demand in canada. We grew up thinking they were based on the signals from the previous marketing option. Supply and demand drives price. You gave supply but nobody has demanded in your area.

Have you tried marketing to the usa using producer cars? If enough producers up your way did this, then you would arbitrage the market. The grain cos wont do this on your behalf. They can buy cheap in your area, and ship to westcoast to blend into milling wheat. Tremendously profitable for them.

As for us down along the usa border, no problem selling to nd and mn elevators. Love the exchange rate these days!

Yup - we've helped move rye into the US east coast. Cereals, pulses, oilseeds - the more buyers on the table, the better the opportunity to find a better sale price.

We have buyers based in CDN east coast, CDN west coast, US northern states, US Midwest, US east coast, US southern plains, etc. We do credit checks on every buyer (via Dun & Bradstreet) every 3 months to ensure all buyers FarmLead users deal with are fiscally secure. Almost 38,000 MT moved in last 2 years, zero payment issues.

Ha not bragging about volume. We will brag about the fact that we are finding farmers up to 60 cents/bushel better than what local bids are (AKA 60 cents/bushel better than those guys who moved 95% of said 75 million tonnes). We don't make any claims that we'll find that sort of money for ALL your grain, but if we could for 10-30% of your grain and we can make sure you're gonna get paid, you probably wouldn't be chirping FarmLead..

I disagree Klause. Far lead doesn't do anything that you can't do. But it makes it easy so that's why the weak growers like it
