Yeah Mustardman I've always found TOM to be a bit of an enigma. With all the patriot talk I can see him fitting in comfortably with the kook, religious right Americans, joining the militia and driving about in his camouflaged combine.
But on the other hand he always solidly backs Governments that remove property rights from citizens….. Strange fellow.

Heard James Nolan on CTV weekend Farmgate program.
Agree that his warning is not realistic.
Seems to follow Richard Gray thinking that growers lost huge sums of money by selling at costly basis levels.
Think that was the case with only a few who had not forward contracted and were forced to sell at worst time.

Well, all the usual suspects have posted their inept responses and excuses as to why Harper has not fulfilled all his promises during his tender as the PM.
The majority of posters who responded felt the reason Harper has failed at making Canada an "Energy "Superpower" nor being a champion of the "Climate Change" is very simple. They blame Peter Mansbridge, the CBC, and the Liberals. Forget the fact of holding Harper and his Conservative government accountable for not getting the job done. Forget the fact Harper just completed an interview and was caught on film stumbling to give an honest answer to questions Mansbridge asked. The very questions every Canadian is entitled to answers to. No the posters gave the same response the Harper Conservatives always give, deny, divert, lie, and point the finger at everybody else. But what was to be expected, they all receive their talking points directly from the PMO fax machine. That's the privilege you have when your're card carrying Conservative and paying contributors to the Conservative party.

HFL, In Alberta the cabinet gave themselves the power to "extinguish" your property title with no right to compensation and specifically no recourse through the law courts to challenge them should they decide to take your land.
Ritz gave you "marketing freedom"
I wonder which is more important?
TOM supported both.

The Alberta Government has never "extinguished" any of our farm's property titles. I doubt as they will. The Canadian Wheat Board on the other hand "extinguished" my property rights every day of my life until August 1, 2012. You supported the CWB's monopoly giving them giving them control over my property? You must support the Alberta Government and their power to extinguish my property titles too?

No, vehemently opposed to the AB Government property rights land grab.
Was in favour of continuation of the CWB monopoly because the MAJORITY of producers repeatedly voted to keep it. I'm all for democracy.
Something to think on - if the Government had no intention of using them why did they bother to pass legislation giving themselves the powers they did under Bill 36 - The AB Land Stewardship Act?
Why in the 21st century would a Government write up legislation giving the provincial cabinet power to extinguish(their word) water rights, land titles and grazing dispositions and remove local land decision making from municipalities. And simultaneously restrict the rights of individuals to have access to due process, the Courts and compensation??
Why??

Why was there ever a vote needed on what I could do with my property? Besides no vote ever showed a clear majority of farmers wanted to keep the monopoly.......Fine we get it.....you hate Harper and all things Conservative. Its your right. This is not communist China, you have the right to like who you want and hate who you want. You will get the chance to vote for someone else in 2015. I remember what a disaster Liberal Governments have been for Canada at so many levels and believe that a Government led by Trudeau would be the worst of all. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I find it interesting that Harper is blamed for the lack of pipeline construction. Obama has stated that he will not approve a pipeline from the oil sands through the US even if congress passes at bill. How do you blame Harper for that? As far as a pipeline from Alberta to the west coast many Aboriginal groups have lined up against that. The energy east pipeline has the Ontario and Quebec governments as well as Aboriginal groups voicing concerns. As a result of objections from what I consider left leaning politicians and groups inside and outside Canada pipeline building has been stopped and we put oil on less environmentily friendly rail which also bites farmers in the ass by limiting our ability to ship our grain. The biggest problem I see is there are too many people wanting to sit on their green asses and complain!

<i>"Would it really be a good idea for everyone from Edmonton south loading trucks and heading south?</i>
No, if this was happening, then it would mean that the railroads had completely abandoned grain or disappeared altogether, the Elevator companies were missing from the market and/or bankrupt.
An extremely unlikely scenario unless we all lose our minds and vote in a Communist government or something equally as crazy.
