Train derail at Banff

Was the train derail at Banff on the main line? All the news is talking about is how soon the road to ski resort will be opened.
They say the bridge is a write off. Just wondering what is happening to rail traffic and how long to get rolling.

6 carloads of Lentils in the creek. You would think if the bridge is destroy it will take a while to get up and running again.

News didn't say if it is rail or car bridge. They were only worried about when traffic would get going to ski hill.

Fifteen CP Rail cars carrying grain and ingredients for cement left the tracks near Banff early Friday, with some ending up in 40 Mile Creek, a tributary of the Bow River.
Transportation Safety Board of Canada officials are at the scene just west of Banff near the 40 Mile Creek Bridge, which was destroyed in the accident.
“It crosses 40 Mile Creek about 200 metres north of the Bow (River),” said TSB spokesman John Cottreau.
“A total of 15 cars were derailed, six cars contained fly ash, an ingredient in cement.
“The other cars contained lentils.
“This is not hazardous materials or dangerous goods.”
There were no injuries.
The derailment happened about 2 a.m. as the westbound CP Rail train left the mountain town.
“Safety is the priority and we take these incidents seriously,” CP spokeswoman Breanne Feigel said in a statement.
“CP crews have been deployed to the scene are evaluating the situation.
“This includes consultation with Parks Canada on all environmental matters.”
Cottreau said the TSB will now decide whether a full investigation is warranted.
“We’re looking to do a whole bunch of stuff, we’re looking to gather any components that are of interest, we’re also going to be doing a download of the train’s locomotive event recorder,” he said.
“And any other sources of information, we’re going to take a look at the bridge, they’ve done a whole bunch of photography so we’ll be taking a look at those.”

The company said it had some re-routing options in place, but that it was also working to remove the rail cars and prepare the site for the installation of a temporary bridge.

Yes rerouting through Crowsnest Pass not sure how much congestion will cause or adverse effect on shipments.

CP just said delays/back ups of 24-48 hrs. I would think this will compound as time goes on.
How long before basis and dumurage will be effected?

Yup, the cleanup/repair crews are getting good at it due to all the practice. Great work in shitty conditions, guys! Stay safe, amazing that no body is killed in most of these crashes.

Accident or maintenance neglect? Hopefully accident only.

Thankfully for the environment it wasn't hazardous material (oil), not so much for grain shippers.....

Seems soon as some want the pipelines so bad we have these record amounts of train derails. Hmmmm. Somebody hire them 911 Saudis?
