BTO glabrous versus hairy canary? Yield advantage, hairy. Only grew the stuff(Maria) twice, one year 1250 lbs and easy thrashing next year 500 lbs and like putting rolls of barbwire through the combine. Its a good crop to speculate with. Grow it and if you don't like the price leave it in the bin. Was told by Mr. Bill May that there is always a good yield response to potash (it likes the chloride). I was thinking about growing some as an alternative to the excessively fusarium susceptible durum. There are supposedly some new better yielding glabrous varieties available. DYODD!!!

we have tried many fungicides including headline , some years yield increase some years not. we just do the puma frontline or puma prestige mixes , both kick the shit out of it for a week to 10 days . I call it our growth regulator . we just grow the itchy stuff , shoot for an average yield of 30-35 bpa . cheap to grow , it's all sold and gone at $.24-.25 per pound.. we do use fungicide of some kind every year although this year we left some 80 ac pieces and no yield loss without it . yield this year sbout 33 bpa ,.unfortunately everyone's growing flax and canary next year which have been our cash crops so maybe we'll take a year off
