At what point are people going to realize that grain farming is no more profitable looking forward into 2015 than it was in in the late 90's and early to mid 2000's??? time for a correction in costs!! including land prices!!

There seems to be resistance to these current land prices by local young guys. There is no way it pays for itself without subsidizing it with other paid for land or off farm income... with that being said how good of an investment is it. I think we are in a new era, you're either born into it or have a lot of money to buy in(huge down payments). It's either that or a huge correction is needed to make it viable to "start from scratch" again. Or if you want to farm, welcome to serfdom(tenant farming)!!!

Will happen when farmers run out of money. Some area that had poor crops last summer are seeing this already but most area had good production so it will take a while longer. The other issue is that land is going down in $US dollar terms but the Bank of Canada is bailing out the speculators by letting the CDN $ fall to zero.

When sask farmland act is opened and tightened up by lyle stewart, the parasite fund companies will be forced to divest and crawl back under the rocks they came from. This will also help with a modest correction and put farmland back in control of farm families!

I would doubt the current land ownership laws will be changed. In doing so land prices would drop and that would not be good for FCC or any bank holding land titles. As for the price of land it was undervalued for years, I'm sorry to say that some might be just a bit too late to the party.

The price of land everywhere else is much higher and growing crops will take a lifetime to pay for it. Why should it be different in Sk? Land here is the cheapest at $2000/ acre. Agree banks, FCC do not want lower values. Farmer's average age is nearly 60. There will be a massive transfer of wealth in next few years. Farming children will get a "deal" anyway, those selling will get a good nest egg.
