    Land prices

At what point are people going to realize that grain farming is no more profitable looking forward into 2015 than it was in in the late 90's and early to mid 2000's??? time for a correction in costs!! including land prices!!

Sounds like you want to buy some land Jake.

There seems to be resistance to these current land prices by local young guys. There is no way it pays for itself without subsidizing it with other paid for land or off farm income... with that being said how good of an investment is it. I think we are in a new era, you're either born into it or have a lot of money to buy in(huge down payments). It's either that or a huge correction is needed to make it viable to "start from scratch" again. Or if you want to farm, welcome to serfdom(tenant farming)!!!

Will happen when farmers run out of money. Some area that had poor crops last summer are seeing this already but most area had good production so it will take a while longer. The other issue is that land is going down in $US dollar terms but the Bank of Canada is bailing out the speculators by letting the CDN $ fall to zero.

$5.50 new crop wheat and $9.00 canola.... I must be missing something. Sure it can turn around... Maybe. it can also get worse. Oh well that's farming as they say.

2000 to 2200 that's the 70 quarter deal in summer. Yea most are sitting on the sidelines. Usa land is dropping were usually two years behind?

When sask farmland act is opened and tightened up by lyle stewart, the parasite fund companies will be forced to divest and crawl back under the rocks they came from. This will also help with a modest correction and put farmland back in control of farm families!

I would doubt the current land ownership laws will be changed. In doing so land prices would drop and that would not be good for FCC or any bank holding land titles. As for the price of land it was undervalued for years, I'm sorry to say that some might be just a bit too late to the party.

If u know of any questionable land deals or ownership by investors, send the info to the land review board. They will investigate

If sale of farmer owned grain companies is any indication, retiring farmers have more clout than young ones who want to expand.
Seems to be a me first attitude and get what we can.

The price of land everywhere else is much higher and growing crops will take a lifetime to pay for it. Why should it be different in Sk? Land here is the cheapest at $2000/ acre. Agree banks, FCC do not want lower values. Farmer's average age is nearly 60. There will be a massive transfer of wealth in next few years. Farming children will get a "deal" anyway, those selling will get a good nest egg.

Yes I get the Western producer or maybe it should be renamed the Leftist Producer. I think the laws won't be changed they will be just looking to see if the existing laws are being broken.

Jeez b.w. Good one, never heard that one before, gladly not everyone thinks like you do, we don't need absentee landowners bidding up farmland, farmers bid it up higher in 1980 ( when pre 2003 land ownership laws were in place) with 2013 adjusted dollars, point is..... Farmers need to own the farmland they farm, when shit hits the fan, and it will again, producers can get through on their built equity in farmland, ain't gonna happen renting land from parasite fund companies.

I know for a fact our ag minister does not see a problem with investors from any country buying land. Glad to see the provinces are paying attention. We cant afford to have to watch who buys strategic resources such as farm land.

I have no problem with foreign families who want to come over and farm. But investors from china and other questionable countries should be shut out.
