A quick calculation on a scrap of paper reveals that there might not be a much arbitrage in ordering fertilizer from China as you think.
Add up the time it takes to get container to the farm, handled and emptied. Fertilizer stored and blended(on farm).
Then add the fuel and wear and tear cost to that. Add in your wage per hour. Maybe a little danger pay and PITA pay.
Nitrogen component of blended product FOB farm for this year's crop is 525 per tonne.
    Paperwork must cost something.
I guess there might still be a few bucks in it.

I agree farming101. I'm always leary about buying anything from china. Was looking at copper sulphate from there and it scares me a bit in knowing whether or not it is actually what u are suppose to be getting.

Ha, I wonder if the fertilizer we buy that is made in NA is what they say it is.
The 11-52-0 we used last year was very poor quality.

Chinese granular urea currently sells for $330/mt/USD FOB most ports in China. ($395/mt/Canadian). If you can get into Saskatoon for $300/mt, that is quite the impressive logistics
