Yes buffet has a point! That's why I'm still sticking with farming! One day it might change! Hopefully our replacemts can figure out the income problem in western canada!
History teaching would help! Because as a industry we go round and round but after 150 years as a grain family Cargill still keeps getting richer and farmers are the other way! Richardson is the same! Dreyfus etc!
The dollar difference is not figured into our price this is the problem! Their taking it as their right!

Funny all the experts must be on freebee holidays sponsored by chem fert and grain companies this week as no one wants to explain the difference between Canada and USA if were using Minn for wheat.
5 in ND and 5 in Canada but when I cash the USA check its 20% bigger.

As I have said many times before..
the grain families the Cargill's, Parish's, Heimbecker's, Paterrson's, Dreyfus's, Richardson's, etc. Have never had to go to the markets to raise capital.

They are billion $ companies they have done very well! They have had, and still today receive an excellent return on their original investment! ...some may call it theft

I've heard every excuse in the book regarding the Winnipeg exchange, no liquidity, no this, no that.

Perhaps the Grain families agreed not to use it all?

The obvious decision by Grain companies in Canada NOT to use the new Winnipeg contracts has got to be the main reason they never took off.
Also, I believe the contracts were designed to encourage farmer use, something the grain companies would have seen as not in their best interest.
One reason mentioned here is that there is a lack of cash price reporting tied to the new contracts. Unbelievable! Somebody at ICE make a few phone calls and get the ball rolling.

Grain companies bread and butter has always been volume handlings from farm to port, in house, while at the same time minimizing risk involved while having ownership of grain. So, it would seem that they must be covering some of their grain purchasing risks by using grain exchanges, they're just not using Canadian exchanges.

grain co.s took a position every time we made a sale.
they use the futures.
it it just we are being screwed on basis.

AB gov't just announced a new commission to look into price diff on retail price between USA and Can. The. First place they should start is on grain prices at elev. Or maybe AG Canada could set up a commission or expand the Grain Commission mandate.
