Warren Buffett has written that lots of billionaires turn him down for his and Bill Gates "The living pledge" scheme because they worry about getting by on less than a billion if they give away a large chunk of their wealth. He figures he should write a book on "How to get by on less than 500 millon"

Henry Hamm (worth 4.5B) has written that he retired but couldn't handle it and went back to work. He started with nothing and said you can never escape the feeling of poverty once you've experienced it.

I think many of us keep working for that reason and because we want to see an intergenerational wealth transfer to help out the kids.

Bill Gates figures he is leaving less than 10 million to his kids..interesting coming from that guy.

bucket Reply posted Jan 28, 2015 11:57 Graincos don't use futures markets they don't have to . They have zero risk buying grain they way they do.

Perhaps, this is why there is no interest with the Winnipeg futures contracts?

Good question for depape since he thinks the markets are operating properly with a distorted basis.

Government should have told graincos that canadian futures exchanges had to be used for canadian grain. Oops no that can't happen.

Yes buffet has a point! That's why I'm still sticking with farming! One day it might change! Hopefully our replacemts can figure out the income problem in western canada!
History teaching would help! Because as a industry we go round and round but after 150 years as a grain family Cargill still keeps getting richer and farmers are the other way! Richardson is the same! Dreyfus etc!
The dollar difference is not figured into our price this is the problem! Their taking it as their right!

Funny all the experts must be on freebee holidays sponsored by chem fert and grain companies this week as no one wants to explain the difference between Canada and USA if were using Minn for wheat.
5 in ND and 5 in Canada but when I cash the USA check its 20% bigger.

As I have said many times before..
the grain families the Cargill's, Parish's, Heimbecker's, Paterrson's, Dreyfus's, Richardson's, etc. Have never had to go to the markets to raise capital.

They are billion $ companies they have done very well! They have had, and still today receive an excellent return on their original investment! ...some may call it theft

And then we turn around and sell WIT.

What was their saying?just a bunch of farmers?

That phrase did a 180 in meaning.
