bucket Reply posted Jan 28, 2015 13:30 Good question for depape since he thinks the markets are operating properly with a distorted basis.

Government should have told graincos that canadian futures exchanges had to be used for canadian grain. Oops no that can't happen.

I've heard every excuse in the book regarding the Winnipeg exchange, no liquidity, no this, no that.

Perhaps the Grain families agreed not to use it all?

The obvious decision by Grain companies in Canada NOT to use the new Winnipeg contracts has got to be the main reason they never took off.
Also, I believe the contracts were designed to encourage farmer use, something the grain companies would have seen as not in their best interest.
One reason mentioned here is that there is a lack of cash price reporting tied to the new contracts. Unbelievable! Somebody at ICE make a few phone calls and get the ball rolling.

Grain companies bread and butter has always been volume handlings from farm to port, in house, while at the same time minimizing risk involved while having ownership of grain. So, it would seem that they must be covering some of their grain purchasing risks by using grain exchanges, they're just not using Canadian exchanges.

Or just like one expert said at FCC meetings yesterday in Regina.
Were so low we have only one way to go but up.
            Really that's market prospects.

i was always under the impression that
grain co.s took a position every time we made a sale.
              they use the futures.
it it just we are being screwed on basis.
              pure and simple

Allfarmer, when you burn brush, do you need to call "Control Burn 310-5000"? Seems just a little smoke and they send fire trucks from 40 miles away... At your expense.

Not all directors wanted to sell WIT. It would be interesting for one of them to come on here and clear the air/ or shoot flames?

AB gov't just announced a new commission to look into price diff on retail price between USA and Can. The. First place they should start is on grain prices at elev. Or maybe AG Canada could set up a commission or expand the Grain Commission mandate.
