Wheat Growers in the Country Guide

Some of you have talked about farm group effectiveness.

Get involved with one of the best!

It's a nice article, about a great run organization. Giving a great big pat on the back.
But for farmers to embrace it's holy society the group needs to react to daily bull shit from companies.
Policy and long term planning are nice.
But when the head of cp says grain is up over 166% that bull shit and needs a quick repose. Also a rail strike that will just drive up farmers costs a response.
First responses to today's new are what's needed if they want new blood.
Again it has survived a lot of shit and still exists. It must be managed well. But issues of the day are where the action is.

Is this organization able to work with the new direction of ag as proposed by the Liberal Party ie support for public breeding, keeping the revenue cap at its present level.

My crystal ball says the Liberals will dialogue with the wcwga. Rolodexes don't necessarily change with PMs. As for the rate cap, it will go eventually, it has to. Like the _ _ _, if spoken of LONG enough behind certain doors, it happens.
The wcwga reminds me of an ant. I can hardly see them, seldom think of them, don't understand how they work, never hear from them, but somehow still admire how they work.

The Wheat Growers have been cheering every deregulation that has come along in the name of the free market and are farmers better off?

Are the WCWGA a part of the solution? Or part of the problem?

Nice read. They didn't say how many members? They spoke about selected BOD are they not voted in by members?

Am I wrong that the candidates that get nominated to the BOD of the WCWGA are hand picked by the existing board. Most are from a long line of Palliser supporters. I don't know if there is allot of room for new nominations for people from the outside. Organizations like this don't have allot of tolerance for new ideas. They definatly need to reinvent themselves now that the CWB has been dissolved. They need new ideas to help producers in western Canada. Not allot different than any of the rest of the farm organizations out there.

I hope the Wheat Growers (and other groups) are getting after the government to impose back to work legislation if CPR workers go on strike.

Over 500 dues paying members. Who wrote cheques to keep the lights on. That would range from farms like ours with 16000 acres and three families making decisions to sole properties, farmer and their dog.

Board members are voted in every AGM.

Recruited from membership and outside as farmers who realize policy is important to all farmers bottom lines.
I wasn't a member when asked to sit. I had run in the CWB elections and recruited.

If you don't think policy is important, just live with bad policy for a while.

are all 500 dues paying members farmers? if not how many actual farmers are members? are there members who do not pay dues? how many and who do they represent?

The groups that represent farmers should have been on this file long before the contract deadline.

Waiting until a month after the deadline and farmers as individuals start expressing their concerns isn't representation from these groups.

Got a call from the transport ministry yesterday. My impression after a good discussion is that they don't have an idea of what's going on out here. Not sure they are monitoring that close either to each rail/ branch line.

Reports should be a general overview with specifics in the back.

I think it would help if all farmers would call about the poor service in their areas and suggest solutions.

Sorry my last post was related to all farm groups and the railway file.

Bad policy description is what the railways have done to this country.
