This isn't new... but the chemicals used are far less dangerous than those used in the old times.


Because you are in an area that has lots of fluids in the gas... I suspect VOC's have been around for ever.


Old wells do leak... my in laws have a gas well that is leaking salt water to surface around the casing... poor cement job and the company that drilled it is long gone... that is a problem... and that we'll wasn't fractured.

However in the past 30 years things have changed a lot.


Look up north... Sagd... CNRL had thr misfortune of having their steam chamber hit an old poorly abandoned well and they had oil being blown to surface for weeks.

again no fracturing involved...

Maybe you could give us your "expert" opinion on the water test results in the Ernst case where the test results on public record and available on the internet were deliberately changed by with a Government or ERCB official - many of us have seen the before and after screenshots of those results.

I work in alberta every winter. Have for 6 or 7 years. I know the regulations. I live them. I have a pile of friends in alberta in the oilfield areas that farm. I've been on rigs drilling their wells.

My inlaws live in oil and gas Country. My wife grew up with wells all around her.

You aren't spreading truth... your spreading fudd insulting any who contradicts you.

I live in oil country on the west side sask. There have been wells here since the 1950's with no adverse effects to groundwater. The oil activity has been an asset to this area. Our oil deposits contain a lot of salt water which is produced and pumped back into injection wells. There is the same concern around here like grass has about fracking. However it's been done here for 50 years with little problem. I think the biggest problem is the general public doesn't really know what goes on and can fall prey to those who oppose it and throw out some anecdotal stories and passion. Yes I am not informed enough to know grass's situation and I respect his critical approach. People must think once in a while and not accept everything at face value. Grass doesn't agree with fracking fine but getting personal and name calling is not acceptable. This country was built on oil and ag. For an outsider to bash what this country was built on really insults a lot of us. Calling a saskatchewan farmer a stubble jumper and oil man a rig pig would be like me calling an Englishman a Pom. Shit where does it end. Again grass I respect your insight on most topics and have learned a lot from your contributions but don't go punching outta your weight class

Parsley, we are in a battle here - agriculture versus industrial activity that threatens our land, water and ability to farm. i won't be issuing any apology to the "other side" as I don't respect their position much like most of the grain farmers view the grain co's and railroads as the "other side" in that debate. I'm surprised you aren't more interested in defending agriculture. Maybe google Diana Daunheimer an organic farmer near Didsbury who has been badly affected by fracking.

Klause works for the other side - following the oil sector code of silence so no surprise he opposes me. Won't be posting any of my water well data - why would I? nowhere did I say our water wells had been contaminated.

Drilling and completions fluids change from well to well. I never said it is used I have never seen it used. Your white paper shows it as a possibility.

Diesel is another one. So is kerosene.

Weather they get used or not is a different story. Some chemicals are nasty and are still used when we'll conditions require it.

I have respect for the vacc truck driver that broke the code of silence, disgusted that he had been ordered to dump 2 loads of recovered frac fluid in the river that runs through my land because they got behind hauling it away. Showing courage that few in the patch do, speaking up against wrong doing.

I like the "respect for the folks working away from home so my house can be heated" They get paid for doing a job and I in turn pay for the product. Normal business transactions.

By the same token though shouldn't you be showing your respect for the people working in the fertilizer plants in north America to give you the product to grow your crops instead of sneaking off to China or Russia and trying to undercut them?
