Canadians don't legally or morally subscribe to punishing non-believers or gays with death, and I'm a regular Canadian.

Most Canadian generally viewed multiculturalism as a benign 'live and let live' way of life. Ten years ago, most people in Canada wouldn't even think about being killed for being a Presbyterian or an atheist or a Buddhist. But there are definitely religious people who view us as infidels. Pars

I want to do more 'back there when' research, too, binthere, but was more interested in reading about the current laws of punishment, and the dynamics of the current power-struggle between the different sects of Islam, and trying to understand the intensity of the fanaticism. In 2015. pars.

the tribes under the rule of mohamed started infighting days after his death.the laws of the shura have not changed. what has changed over time is the growing apostate culture of muslims. whether converting to another religion by muslims or choosing to be passive over time is the major antagonist to the increase of the extremist movement. although now we do see such excessive forms of killing such as the now burning alive of infedels. the extreme measures are used to not only put fear in the minds of the whole population but to recapture the devotiuon of all inherent muslims.

I note the debate here is mainly political because I guess we are headed into a fall election. My issue will always be the human element and we interact at home in Canada. My world is a very multicultural and religiouus one. The most interesting element is watching teenagers of all colors, cultures and religions interact. Thank goodness they don't carry our baggage. Everyone is the same in their eyes.

The debate here is about ISIS , which is ,in turn , a religious debate, Charliep. Perhaps you need to read the page again. The article from The Atlantic divides the paper into four sections:
1. Devotion
2. Territory
3. The Fight
4 . Disuassion

All four sections intimately describe some of Isalm's doctrines, from the very mouths of the devotees who lead and follow it. They are not hesitant to say what their religion means on practical terms, and it's' demands of them. Neither are they apologists. They stride forwards with fervour.

For example,
"to send an ambassador to the UN is to recognize an authority other than God's".

Saying that negotiation is not an option.

The paper also reveals the main contention of interpretation within Islam itself, which the differing sects are killing one another over. I had read no previous information about it.

Those discussing the religious caliphate and the territory that it needs to amass, are educated leaders and want to be heard.

Graeme Wood wrote from a clear bird's-nest view about the strongest gate-keepers of Islam and their inner workings, and the strict rules they must adhere to.

It is a fascinating account. And one from which all AV 'ers would gain a better understanding of Islam itself.
The CBC political talk-panel you posted is
neither a literary nor an informational equivalent to this well documented religious examination of Islam and it's' devotees. Parsley

I have to wonder what your end game is.

Would you send Muslims to internment camps the way Canada did with Japanese Canadians in the second world war?

Would you prevent Muslims who refugees from the violence of ISIL the way Canada did with Jews ahead of the second world war?

Would you send Canadian Muslim children off to residential school for re-education/north America socialization the way Canada with first nations kids?

Not topic related but some of the most powerful museums that have had the most impact on me have been those about mans's atrocities against their neighbours.

Museums about the Dirty War in Argentina.

The museums in Vietnam about that war starting the the French.

The museums about Jewish extermination in Poland and Germany.

Killing fields in Cambodia.

Museums in Kiev about the starvation in the 1930's.

Irish museums about the potato famine.

Residential schools in Canada. The Japanese internment camps in BC.

Man's cruelty against man is not new. Not all is religious based.

I have printed the article. I suspect you have interpretation but initial reading would say that it may or may reflect what the authors said. Your interpretation of their words.
