    Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Just curious is anyone else is watching women's curling. Saskatchewan versus Alberta. Then on to Manitoba. Love the game. Strategy is fascinating.

Good game, however either team will have it tough up against JJ.

Good games. I'm most impressed with the second for Stephanie Lawton. She filled in for the injured Singlar. She really curled well.

Sweeting vs JJ should be great match up.

Stephanie has done pretty good concidering she hasn't been on the canadian curling circuit. She won her way to the top the old fashioned way. Threw a team together and went and curled.
Think she should of told Rick to take a hike and split the house earlier in the 8th. She made that draw all week and just hit a flat spot and came up short. Val made a bullet of a draw. Congrats to the Alberta team, good luck against the Manitoba Jones machine.

This belonged in Things To Love About Alberta, but who doesn't love Cheryl Bernard? Great voice and commentary, plus . . .

I curl at the Saville in Edmonton in the Tuesday night men's league. That is also the night that Sweeting team practices. Fun to watch them go through their drills. Will be two good games today. A repeat of Friday night/yesterday morning.

Perhaps you get used to it as a curler. Hearing the words light from the brushers or inside from the skips mouth (likely including a certain amount of panic) makes a person not pay attention so much to the TV. You know exactly what is happening because you have been there. What is amazing to me is the sweeping ability of these woman. They make shots happen that simply wouldn't in the league I play in.

Charlie, I'm not surprised at the sweeping. I guess I've always been around physically capable women.

I'm most surprised at how the game has evolved to the point that even the release is managed for different shots.

I think better ice has made a difference. Back in the early eighties our team curled over 100 games a year. But the ice surfaces were mostly poor. Crappy water, poor equipment and ice maker training all contributed.

You would not believe the ice at the Saville. Keen with good curl right from the first rock and consistent. I can only imagine arena ice. Takes some of the fun out the game because it is hard to blame ice for missed shots.

Yes, and the rocks. I remember when our club got ours sharpened. Suddenly I had a new scapegoat for missed shots.
