    2015 Sask Crop Insurance Program!

    New Sask Crop Insurance Program
The Crop Insurance budget for 2015 is $154 million. On average ,coverage levels are increasing to $183/acre, up from $162/acre in 2014. Premiums are going down to an average of $7.06/acre from $7.47 in 2014. The improved coverage is a result of better forecasted crop prices and increased long-term yields. The lower premium is a result of lower rates to provide insurance coverage to producers.
Three changes have been made to the Unseeded Acreage (USA) feature this year. First, new coverage levels of $50, $70, $85 and $100/acre have been created, giving producers more choice about coverage for land that may be too wet to seed due to excess spring moisture. In past years, producers had a minimum coverage of $70/eligible acre and could purchase additional coverage if they wanted. Secondly, a change has been made to how the USA premium is shown on a producer’s statement. The USA premium will now be shown separately from the producer’s Crop Insurance premium. In the past, these were bundled together. Finally, the USA premium will be charged on total acres normally seeded and not just acres insured through Crop Insurance.

So basically 80% of farmers shouldn't mind the new changes to flooded land. HA HA HA.
That's because only 20% of the province is flooded real bad. So this is a simple program if you had a claim for flooded acreage you now in a dry area can drop it oh wait it isn't figured into the basic price.
But those who have lost acreage will have to pay now for any coverage. Think they just ended the flooded acreage part of the equation. Also no change from the March date to sign up. Ah really hard to say in march if you think its going to flood. Sort of like the weather station bet program from a few years out.
Also they added some crops which is good. Oats is based on a #2 that is good. Feed peas that we all sell as edibles hasn't changed. HA HA.
Coverage up but that is hard to see where the increase is coming from.
Oh well this is what we have to work with its a tool in our tool box.

What are some of your premiums on canola peas
And wheat. I don't know where they are getting 7.00 average premium. Are most guys just taking 50% coverage or what?

Not in it, was forced in once with the infamous "GRIP" program and never was in since. Happy to say usually we "average" out ok anyway.

Not designed to make money, but barely cover your ass. Farm it too long, then what? When your consistently lower than the area average I'm sure the red flag goes up, then they want you to use the white flag...
