    Agstar77,

My ambition never was to be a trucker hauling grain thousands of miles. We have a good rail infrastructure. We need to be able to use the investments, that are cost effective and fuel efficient. Over 100 miles.. rail is by far the best means to transport our grain. Hence the need for better rail service. Thanks

      Agstar77,

If we were to provide the locomotives to pull our rail cars... we own... it might be an angle to get our trains we own on CN and CP rails. Dedicated grain trains... that are allowed to go where most needed. Why not lease some Locomotives and get CP on CN crews to run them? BNSF, CN and CP switch like this now.

The federal and provincial governments should have realized years ago that having a trucking industry created is the worst solution to countering the railways arrogance.

Sure jobs are created but factor in the cost of the public highway system and you quickly realize you run deficits or have ruined highways. Well at least I thought someone elected or with a university education as a staffer would realize it. Not so.

The railways have to be reigned in, when they start treating the economy and by extension the people of canada, when they start acting like dictators to government. Which is exactly what is happening.

Do you think mongeau or Harrison have the balls to tell the US STB to **** off like they do here.

Not likely and if you look at CPs rail backlog in the states you know they don't.

It's time for ritz harper and others to straighten out the ceos of the railways.

Their political lives may depend on it although I think most have found a life after politics already.

I will make you a deal Tom. I will join you,(and I am serious) on this hunger strike. If all turns out well, and once our health recovers, then I will do one against C-18, UPOV91. Most on here including myself are dead against that. It will definitely be a cause for the good of farmers. Will you join me in it?

              Agchat,

              So you know better than,

              The CFA,

              Canadian Canola council,

              Grain Growers of Canada,

              Secan,

              Independent and small seed co's,

C18 was NOT about taking advantage of grain growers... it is about the fair and equitable opportunity for grain growers in Canada to be allowed the opportunity to participate in new Genetics and Technology in the seed world.

You have missed the point. Brown Bag seed sold to another grain grower... under the old rules... or under UPOV91 was illegal.

              Will you write the railways?

                Tom

You have to quit insulting others intelligence.

The railways pulled the stunt by saying everything would be better with branch line abandonment and removal of the crow rate blah blah blah.

Now you are going to tell us everything will be better with new seed rules while asking farmers to support your cause against your former masters.

Maybe get a new point man - you seem to have lost some credibility?

                  Bucket,

I did not think you would give in to the Railway game plan so easily. These are two VERY different issues.. as indicated by the large majority of farm groups that have indicated the positive implications.

Somewhat like us attaining new technology that allows safe multi-passage of freight on CP/CN rail beds... like multi-use railroad agreements and you opposing this as unsafe... no matter how many safeguards are in place .

                  Sorry.

But the results will be the same and it's not good for farmers.

Where are the efficiency gains the railways promised?

                    With efficiency comes lower costs?

Same with the seed law. Everything looks good on paper.

Just been fooled too many times by people that promote it and then sail into the sunset.

If you did in fact speak to ritz about these rail problems why has he been so slow to act?

                    He's been pretty quiet.

Get rid of the Crow it will lead to diversification and more value added, Get rid of all the branch lines so the Railways can be more efficient and lower your freight rates. Get rid of all the small elevators , large terminals will make grain handling cheaper. Get rid of the CWB because farmers can't run their own grain marketing as well as Multi's. Bring in more seed regulation so farmers will get better seed. 5 things that have made us more profitable.

Won't lose much weight drinking that magical Harper Koolaid Tom.
Hunger strike by western Canadian grain farmers? I'll believe that when I see it - most seem afraid to protest in public (other than hiding behind aliases on the internet)

The cta review was written before it was announced. The same problems have been there for too long which is part of the reason your court case was thrown out.
