    Positive Thursday!

Well when the week is almost done you accomplished not as much as you wanted since grain movement is at a stand still again. But I digress and am moving on. All equipment has had oil changed and maintenance done in shop. Semis checked and rechecked and tires changed. Even down to changing grinding wheels on grinders. Now rebuilding flighting etc so yes positive is lots of maintenance is done.
Seems in Ag we need some positives in this country. Some feel they have lucked out or controlled their own destiny to the best years of cropping in their lives.
Good on you I never want to see a farmer have shitty luck.
Every one who has farmed in Saskatchewan for a while knows the weather in this place is unpredictable, unreliable and can change at a moments notice.
Weather I still believe is our greatest obstacle to getting yields that are over the top in western Canada.
Genetics and Seed, Treatments, Fert. and Chem changes help but basically you can give a crop every single thing and if mother nature decides to screw you she will.
So why is it positive Thursday. Well its rather easy. We went into last fall with lots of moisture in the ground lots know I said make it black, Our farm worked about 30 quarters from end to end. Here is what I have noticed.
Snow cover on land worked is similar to stubble cover. Reason the first snow of the season was a wet snow and it stuck then froze. Winter winds have not removed that layer. The snow up to this point has done the usual of filling ditches to top and side roads are totally blocked. The snows moisture amounts compared to last year are way less. Once the sun decides to do its spring thing and the fricking NW winds decide to change it wont take long to go.
So again on a positive note their is lots of farmers smiling with caution in our area.
Yes one wet foot of snow in March April or early may could derail this puppy.
But the same weather pattern has happened since late October. Moisture comes over Saskatoon and north then hits past and dives south to the valley before heading east again almost strait into Manitoba and then back north before heading into Ontario and Quebec.
Our best crops are grown on roughly 4 to 5 inches of timely rains.
So with 56 days till planned seeding start. This has been the best winter in 8 years. Still can sled, easy to clean yards and bags. Once the darker worked ground warms up its full speed ahead.
    Enjoy your day.
    Its positive Thursday. Tell yours.

See better on top side of the dirt than below the dirt.
      That's a real big positive.

Listened to Drew Lerner this week in Arcola at their Ag day. Things look way dryer this year from his standpoint. Sure hope he is right.

wtf a positive spin. Now conservative MPs will read this and quote it in their newsletters or parliament.
          They will think everything's ok.

          Lol.

              HA Ha that's funny Bucket.
I'm just trying to show even a farm that hasn't had mother nature play a great hand for 8 years maybe the tide is turning. Lots in our area are sitting back quietly thinking about it. Planning for a normal spring of seeding peas before the end of April. Yea that use to be normal in a lot of the early years of peas for our area. Then have the Durum in by first few days then a couple thousand wheat and on to Canola. Canola by the 10 to 12th. Done by the Friday of the May long weekend.

Ah one can dream as spring isn't that far away.

We have a lot to be thankful for.
                Best country in the world.
Prairies are the best region in Canada.

Good to see your positive outlook SF3.

                      See we all have positives.
Cutting wood for shack for weekend sledding. Now what's more fun than heading into a flood area with lots of dead trees that are dried already. Cut and load on trailer. Locals have fun stopping by plus we also enjoy.

There is something about feeding animals in cold weather that I find refreshing and awesome. I use square bales so far, and hand feed, so there is no noise. Not a sound. I love the life out there. Steaming sheep's breath as they welcome me each morning. Got lots of good pictures.

Above all, I owe not a single penny on them, yet they offer us a nice little revenue stream.

Even better, is when my kids come out and help on Saturdays!

Ahh the little things in life. Ahh farming as SF3 says!

I do wonder though, SF3, Why do you do the Friday crop report on Thursdays, but do the Thursday positive thread, on Thursday? Shouldn't it be on Wednesday?

I started the crop report on Thursday because Manitoba and sask have their crop reports early.
So thought it was funny thursday crop report for Friday!
                            Hump day is Wednesday!
Just trying to lighten up the site!
Oh one note Manitoba crusher cancelling canola delivery can't get trains for canola oil or meal!
Yea everything is working so well!
