Well when the week is almost done you accomplished not as much as you wanted since grain movement is at a stand still again. But I digress and am moving on. All equipment has had oil changed and maintenance done in shop. Semis checked and rechecked and tires changed. Even down to changing grinding wheels on grinders. Now rebuilding flighting etc so yes positive is lots of maintenance is done.
Seems in Ag we need some positives in this country. Some feel they have lucked out or controlled their own destiny to the best years of cropping in their lives.
Good on you I never want to see a farmer have shitty luck.
Every one who has farmed in Saskatchewan for a while knows the weather in this place is unpredictable, unreliable and can change at a moments notice.
Weather I still believe is our greatest obstacle to getting yields that are over the top in western Canada.
Genetics and Seed, Treatments, Fert. and Chem changes help but basically you can give a crop every single thing and if mother nature decides to screw you she will.
So why is it positive Thursday. Well its rather easy. We went into last fall with lots of moisture in the ground lots know I said make it black, Our farm worked about 30 quarters from end to end. Here is what I have noticed.
Snow cover on land worked is similar to stubble cover. Reason the first snow of the season was a wet snow and it stuck then froze. Winter winds have not removed that layer. The snow up to this point has done the usual of filling ditches to top and side roads are totally blocked. The snows moisture amounts compared to last year are way less. Once the sun decides to do its spring thing and the fricking NW winds decide to change it wont take long to go.
So again on a positive note their is lots of farmers smiling with caution in our area.
Yes one wet foot of snow in March April or early may could derail this puppy.
But the same weather pattern has happened since late October. Moisture comes over Saskatoon and north then hits past and dives south to the valley before heading east again almost strait into Manitoba and then back north before heading into Ontario and Quebec.
Our best crops are grown on roughly 4 to 5 inches of timely rains.
So with 56 days till planned seeding start. This has been the best winter in 8 years. Still can sled, easy to clean yards and bags. Once the darker worked ground warms up its full speed ahead.
Enjoy your day.
Its positive Thursday. Tell yours.
